Is there a way to cause broodiness?

Most New Year's Days down here, I either go to the river to swim or go fishing wading up and down the river in shorts. It's supposed to be in the 90s again here today. It's usually in the high 70s during the day at Christmas this far down south.
Man that sounds so nice. Here in the desert, in n.m. it gets just cold enough to be awful, 20 to 30 at night all winter, but the days are slightly better with 40 (to up to 50) and howling chilling winds! We do have a "balmy" january usually. And really only December, feb and march are the bad months. (I would never make it up north!)
Today its 85 here, tonight will be 60. The day/night extremes are the worst in winter though. sometimes it will be 25 at night and 65 during the day. Causes trouble with the fruit trees in the spring!
Just looked at this weeks weather, friday says 90/59 and monday says 73/49. Crazy weather up and down so much.

Might I ask why ANYONE would want a broody chicken?! Ahhhhh I have one crazy broody bantam and I understand that people want to hatch their own chicks but I just can’t imagine WANTING a broody chicken. My girl drives me nuts and I feel awful taking her eggs. But I love her anyway, even if she does drive me crazy.
Anyway, back to the original thought, no, there is no way to make a hen go broody.

For me mainly, its because coturnix quail rarely, if ever, go broody, and i didnt have success in the incubator.

First I will say you cannot force them to go broody, but one can encourage it. Here is what I do, sometime it works and some times it does not. I use golf balls in all the nests, when I want a broody, as I take the eggs from the nest (at dusk) I place a GB in it's place, if I take more than 1 egg I will put in 2 GBs but no more than 2. Meanwhile I stock pile the eggs I want a hen to set on keeping them in a turner. IF/when a girls sets on the GBs, I swap them for the real eggs after a day or 3. (I want her to be serious).. I also use a bator,,
Good luck!

Oops I thought this was for a chicken...
It is about a chicken going broody...to hatch out quail eggs.

People who have broody birds and don't want chicks hatched hate them... BTDT!
Had one go broody 8 times this summer, after hatching in March, SMH,
I gave her away to someone who wanted a broody.
People who want chicks hatched and don't have broody birds, pine for a broody.

Exactly! The one who had thought about going broody has got bored with the idea by last night. But maybe it is a sign of hope for her, she did just start laying after all.

In a lot of young pullets they will go thru a pseudo-broody phase before they commit to going the distance. I usually won't let them sit on eggs the 1st time they go broody, ill break them. But if they keep on persisting, ill give them some eggs to rub their fluffy little butts on.
