Is there such a thing as a Barred rocks that is solid black ?

If your girls are barred rocks, it is them that is producing the barring not your rooster. They give their barring to their boys, but not the girls, which is how you can tell if you have girls or boys very early on.

I don't have roosters but I know that my hens fade a bit so that by the time they molt they are slightly brownish, not noticeable until their new feathers start coming in, Same for my BRs.

Do you have a picture of ur little black hen? Jersey Giant hens have much more black feathering on their faces than austrolorp hens...at least all of the ones I've seen...and JG have huge brown eyes, no orange, and of course bright yellow soles.

I think all of your barred chicks will be roosters. A solid roo over barred hens will give sex-link chicks, the roos are barred and the hens are solid. Do you have pics of the chicks?

Thanks for all of your help. I saw the roosters feet bottoms today and they are pink so I guess he is an Austrolop.

Ok I know the ducks are not the offspring of your black rooster, but what about the chicks? or which chicks did the black rooster father?
