Is this a fair price for a Black Copper Maran ?

50.00 a chick no way eggs are about 10.00 a piece...Thats 5 eggs!
I have BCM's from c1 line and Bev's line and Wade Jeane lines..I hatched my c1's and bought chicks from honest breeders but 50.00 a chick, but I probly paid more then that in gas to pick them up..(LOL)!!

Wow!! I didn't even pay that much for a pair of Hat Trick silkie chicks and their eggs are $100 a dozen!! Yikes!

My 2 cents~ Although personally I wouldn't pay that much for "A" chick, but I am only beginning in chickens so maybe someday but not now. If the line is good and you are willing to pay that much for something you really want, I am sure it is worth it. If you don't pay it someone else will if it is something they really want. Like in everything we breed there is bad lines, good lines and excellent lines. You need to decide in which your wants fall. Do you want the line? Then go for it, but build a solid coop and treasure her. You wouldn't want anything to happen to her. Good luck with your decision.

I do have a pullet that might work for you, since you can't have roos. Her father is a copper black marans, and her mother is a black clean legged marans. She looks just like a copper black, and will lay just like a copper black, but she will not reproduce like one. Since you are not into breeding, that should not be a problem for you. She is about four months old and just barely starting to get some pink color around her eyes. She should start to lay in a month or two. Here is her father

and she hatched from an egg that looks like the one on the left. I will sell you this pullet for $30 to anyone who is interested. Local pickup only.

I agree lvchickenbob. It is usualy people who don't have this kind of chicken that rant that the prices should be lower, yet they don't get these birds, breed them and sell them lower for everyone to enjoy.
