Is this guy a gonner?

None of them were clear. They all had a distinct "solid" & "negative" space in the egg.
Did they have blood vessels?
every time I hatch I use this picture to tell me how far along they should be. I’m a bit obsessive lol. E37CF31F-9A65-48E7-A2FE-0CA486BBFA3C.png

this is what they should look like when you candle them.

This chick should be out of the shell by tomorrow, so put it back and don't disturb the broody hen anymore. She needs to be left alone and her eggs too.

Thank you so much for the pictures! I didn't see any veins, the eggs looked more like "day 19". They were very solid & heavy feeling. Well, heavier than normal. lol, they are bantam eggs!

I haven't disturbed her at all. I went out & she was out on her own decision taking a dust bath. I went to get the eggs thinking she was done sitting on them. (Her & another hen have been fighting over & switching nests.) I only "disturbed" the egg that looked broken.

Fighting over eggs and switching nests can be prevented by separating the broody hen.

It's exciting to know that I can watch some chicks hatch before too long.
This is what had me thinking that in your excitement to watch them hatch you might disturb the broody and eggs during this very sensitive phase of incubation.

To actually watch the chicks hatch it is better to use an incubator, but I know that people sometimes get carried away with excitement and curiosity and even lift the broody off their eggs to take pictures etc.

Fingers crossed thst all goes well! :fl
