I have 13 baby chicks who are 3-4 weeks old, ive seen that the older the chicks get you should decrease the temperature, but our lamp doesn't do that, the five we have outside when they where chicks we just had them in a bigger box so they can regulate their temperature, for our 13 we have a very big box and as they got bigger we put their food/water more spread out. is this okay? so far they are all really healthy and were not seeing any problems, we did have two losses but one was when they arrived and one was when they were about a week old but I don't think it is related

To decrease heat with a heat lamp you can raise it higher. If that's not possible due to the set up/location of brooder and lamp, you can also swap out the bulb for a lower watt bulb. Pet stores carry bulbs in the reptile section that come in various lower watts (75 to 125?)

Can you raise the heat lamp higher? That will lower the direct temperature. You will know if it is too hot as the chicks will lay further away from the heat source.

no, but the chicks are usually evenly spread throughout the box so the temp should be okay but we aren't sure if we still would need to find a way to lower the temp as they grow even more

:welcome

You can change the heat lamp out, with an incandescent light bulb(100 watt). If they're in the house they should be being weened of heat now.
If you add your general location to your profile, it will always show in your avatar and we can help better, knowing the weather you deal with. We don't need an exact location.

Once chicks lose their down and grow in their feathers, they will not need as much heat. If they pant and/or become lethargic, then you will know that they are too warm.
