Sir's and ma'am's until your lips are numb. God forbid you said it with a hint of sarcasm, any adult within reach would adjust your tone with a grateful nod from your parents. We did quite often refer to long time family friends as Aunt/Uncle though. Our friends' parents could be referred to on a first name bases, but it was always Miss/Mrs/Mr (First Name) and only if they said so. It doesn't seem as common now though.
 
Just wanted to add that we also wave to other drivers when we’re driving. It’s very common here.
Facts. I can't drive out of my small town without waving goodbye to all the neighbors, pedestrians, tractor drivers, and horse riders. Drivers get the two fingers up from the wheel half wave.
