Is your significant other supportive of your chicken hobby?

I know I've already posted but, uh, can I just answer NO..HE IS NOT. HE IS JEALOUS..OF CHICKENS:) So hey, if there's anyone out there looking for a hard working, want- to- make -a self- reliant- farmstead- work woman.....lol

Animals are a de-stressor for me! I love all kinds of animals and if it was up to me we would have a zoo -- complete with Elephants. but as it is, I've got an awfully slow start toward my zoo, due to a very level headed husband who understands that I do have limitations, and he looks out for my sanity, even if I don't. :p first he let me get a budgie... then a cat... then I talked him into another cat and another budgie... then he finally agreed that the time was right and we could get some chickens. 8 of them. well, I drooled and gushed over our Meyer hatchery catalog so long that he [at long last] told me that he [finally] realizes that this means something to me... and he told me I can get more breeds other than the original Orpingtons and Australorps. :D the "eight" turned into "thirty". :p so, sometimes I have to give him time to think through my ideas, and if we can stay level headed and talk through things, it goes much better than if I just run all over him and nag and disrespect him. so YES, he is supportive, but he probably wouldn't be if I hadn't been careful how I treat him through it all!! he's even warming to the idea of me raising some Bantam breeds. ;)

Aw, I'm sorry! Maybe he will come around some day! :) like you said earlier - i think my hubby is tired of hearing about the animals too. :p when his eyes start glazing over i know I'd better change the subject. Lol!

Well, he may not complain so much after yesterday. Customer came and bought ALL of the eggs I had then said he needs 22-24 DOZEN PER WEEK! With the bantam eggs I collect about 3 dozen per week. Customer currently buys from 3 people and still can't get the amount he wants. Yay, I'm increasing my flock:)

Thanks. Statistically it wouldn't be feasible for me to add enough layers to be his sole egg provider (which would be sort of mean to the others he buys from) but it is a good excuse for chicken math:) And to beat it all the guy calls today after seeing some of dh's stuff and gives him a quick pay hauling bit for tomorrow! I will be bringing this up EVERY TIME he says something about my chickens, especially since what he will be doing pays more than egg sales;-)

Why on earth do you need 30 chickens?

My husband is very supportive. In fact, we're in the midst of converting a large doghouse into our 2nd coop & run so we can get 5 new pullets...we already have 5 laying hens. I brought the doghouse home this afternoon, and he immediately started working on repairs and modifications as soon as he got home from work. I think he's as excited as I am about adding to our flock.

Haha I wish my hubby were so on board. It takes him forever to get to work on anything animal related!
