Isa's Homestead Happenings and Hangout

I read peppermint is really toxic to dogs? I’m sure it would be fine but made me nervous.
We use Ivermectin pour-on with the dogs, it doesn't seem to be 100% effective, but it really cuts down on ticks. We have LOTS of ticks.
I can walk in tall grasses for half an hour and pick 8-10 ticks off myself if I don't use the spray, I counted. So far when I've used the spray I haven't needed to pick any off myself.
We tried an essential oil collar with the dogs and it didn't work at all.
The Ivermectin seems to be the most effective product we've used. Note: My dogs are in tall grasses, woods, weeds etc. on a daily basis so they have a high exposure to ticks. We will do a monthly application of pour-on because we don't want to overdo it all at once.

Thanks!! This is great information!! Brew is on the chewable treat thing but it only kills them when they bite. Doesn’t repel. Which is obviously useless as they can still transfer diseases or could jump off onto me or the cat. I should try that. And yeah, one hike I pulled I think 15-20 off me but could’ve been less like 10-15, not sure. And then 5-10 off him. Then 3-5 more off me later. Then still found 1-2 around the next day and the day after. It was BAD. All from one hike.

We tried these collars and consider them useless. We noticed no difference at all, even after two weeks of use.

We’ve tried similar except it was the actual Seresto brand. Didn’t work also don’t like touching the chemicals
Seresto has been used extensively and has a decent number of fatalities linked to pet death, but what do I know, maybe those same pets had other existing issues and this just put them over the edge.

I don’t have tights? Lol I mean I have the fishnets that came with the French maid outfit, but those would be totally ineffective.

It takes a tick 24 hours being attached to the host to be able to transmit a disease. Once monthly preventatives are not useless for this reason

I sprayed four full outfits with this. An outfit consists of a shirt, shorts/pants, and socks. I was also able to spray three pairs of shoes and my hiking bag. Went through two bottles, following the directions. We will also be spraying ourselves with Off Deep Woods Dry because you're not supposed to spray this stuff on the skin
