They are. I have read from the most prestigious breeders they can lay green. It is true. They are described as laying a greenish blue egg, and no one is going to cull for that unless they want blue eggs. The SOP doesn't say that they have to lay blue eggs to win a show, or the roosters never would. They just are preferable, and no person can determine the color of an egg, it is all preference.

No. Members of the Ameraucana Breeders Group. And everyone agrees. They are not trying to sell their eggs in the conversations, just helping people interpret the standard.

That's the difference between a 'breeder' and a 'reputable breeder'. Works the same for dogs, cats, horses, chickens, etc. Anybody can put a sign up, find one that stands behind what they say.

What I am trying to say is that it is unlikely that every Ameraucana on the planet is going to lay a blue egg. Some will lay green. It isn't likely that they would all lay blue.

Ameraucana come from the Araucana breed not the EE. EEs are baslocally chicken mutts. I'm planning on buying one of those mutts. I've already got an Ameraucana coming in a few weeks.

Thank you for all of the opinions. Ameraucauna or not, I love my special girls. I'm not getting rid of them just because they don't lay a certain color. I guess we'll never know for sure, and that's fine with me.

I've got both and they're both good chickens. The EE is much nicer than the ameracuna and less sneaky mean. Both lay beautiful eggs and unless you have both side by side you're hard pressed to find a difference. Personally I think EE hens are more interesting just due to the range they can actually be. Bea looks like a buff Orpington with muffs and a beard while Susan looks pretty much like every other ameracuna. I just like them weird i guess.

New to the chicken world last spring, I paid extra for fancy female show-quality "Americana" babies from the local co-op store. They quickly turned into 3 female and 1 male Easter Eggers. I had to rehome the rooster and lost one girl to a predator, and added in 2 "Ameraucana" pullets from the local Mennonite farm. With my 4 girls, every one of them is a mutt and I love them.

I've got a small black and fire red wild partridge EE with muffs and a giant full beard that lays mint green eggs, a very big grey/white EE with no muffs/beard and little wattles that lays a giant blue gray egg (shown below), a red partridge EE with muffs/beard that lays olive eggs, and a red partridge with a gray tail with muffs/beard that lays the most beautiful pure blue egg. All their eggs are blue inside. A chicken breeder saw a dozen of my eggs and proclaimed that I have a pure Ameraucana from the blue colored egg, until I showed her a pic of the bird and confused her. lol All my dogs are rescued mutts, so mutt chickens are perfectly welcome at my house, and the many colors of eggs just makes my egg basket even prettier.
