It feels like FOREVER!!! UPDATE!!!! MAJOR UPDATE!!!!!!!

My 15 just turned 18wks, today. I was so impatient that I bought 4 laying hens just two weeks after my baby chicks arrived. Those 4 girls are the only thing that has kept me sane. However, now that we are getting close to that first egg (from the babies), I think I am losing it. I think the BRs are going to lay first, as they look most mature. Marans are big, but not as full developed looking as the BRs. EEs still look like babies. BOs are growing, but very pale in the combs still. I sat in their run with them for 1 1/2 hours on Saturday, just to see if I could catch a squat or two.
My DH thinks I am suffering from Chicken OCD.

Sigh. I'm with you! My girls are 21, 20 and 19 weeks and no one is laying yet. We've got some red combs, red wattles, a few tentative practices at egg songs, jumping into the nest boxes and turning in circles, pushing the golf balls around and maybe a squat or two but so far no eggs. I've tried using The FORCE on them but even that hasn't worked! Maybe if I try again...waves hand over bird's faces "you want to lay an egg..."

I know what you mean. I've got birds ranging from 16 weeks to 21 weeks and they're doing the egg squat to the roos and each other.

I've given up and adopting two laying ducks. Now, if the owner can get them out of the coop!

Eggs were NOT the reason I got chickens, but I gotta tell ya, the first egg laid by one of my girls just thrilled me to no end.

And each one since is a special jewel, too - it doesn't get old (for me). I always thank the girls for each egg I gather. It's such a bonus. And such a tasty bonus, too!

Now I have enough eggs to actually sell some to other people at work. (I do give some away to very special people: my supervisor, the male co-worker who has helped out with handy-man kinda stuff at my house, my land-lady, and the janitor gal who is perfecting my Spanish speaking skills whilst I assist her with her English.)

Each of those people are also thrilled by the different colors of the eggs. Well, so are the folks who pay for the eggs... they think they're so much more special than the "organic, cage free, brown eggs" they can buy in markets. Of course, they are RIGHT!

I am waiting and I have a long way to go! Its killing me! My ladies are about 15 weeks so maybe around another 6 weeks for my first egg? UGGGH! I am so not patient. lol!

yay .. cute little egg...

That should set them ALL off!

In a couple weeks you'll be getting more eggs than you know what to do with. Then you'll have banties going broody and things will just EXPLODE!@!!!

PM me if you need anything .. I'm just down the road!
