...In other news, I set Brittany into a nest box this morning when I caught her trying to make a nest in the under-roost corner again. She seemed to like the nestbox and I thought, "alright! That's that, then" ...well i just checked camera and... well... she's made a new nest in the under-roost corner.

Brittany!!!!!!!!! you know the nest boxes are the place to be, that is where ALL the chickens wish they could be! :)

You definitely need a run cam. I set one up on the far side and caught those couple run-eggs right before they stopped laying! If I hadn't seen it happen they would have been pecked open and eaten.

Plus it's good for like... seeing if predators come around at night. I've caught racoon, fox and coyote lurking around!!!

Maybe she'll come back around. You know how we think certain things are the most important in the world around that age... my only daughter is 15, she likes to go sit out with the chickens and give them mash, etc. My boys don't really care so much anymore. LOL

I hadn't weighed hers before the incident... I just knew they were small. It's interesting to see that maybe she is still making them bugger, slowly haha. I think it just looks worse because I see them next to Zoingos crazy eggs. I should probably cut her some slack!
I do need a run cam. LOL I will get one soon. :)

Who knows if she will come back around. she is 16 (soon to be 17) my other one just turned 19. The 19 yr old will go out with me with them sometimes and is all for getting at least a couple more last year. Mainly the Sicilian buttercup since that was the one we lost this year and was her fav. The 16 yr old says we have enough. LOL

Zoingo has HUGE eggs so will be hard for many of them to compete with her I would think. Well ok huge for me, maybe normal size for many others. LOL

Well tomorrow is a week since I first noticed Annabelle squatting ( but she may have been before this). So hopefully soon and not another 9 weeks!!!
I finally saw what is meant by squatting. I'm the one with the 3 cuckoo maran moochers. Well, I was in parent teacher conferences late earlier in the week so I got home way after dark. Yesterday I was walking with them around the yard and noticed Mean Charolette (nick name soup) had a comb that grew. I reached down to try and pet her... there it was "the squat." So is it going to happen soon? Her comb is twice as big as her sisters.

They say in a week or two, but some take longer.

I just love this feed.I missed them soooooo much when I stayed late for work. Is that Crazy? They are getting a new overez coop in the next few days. The large one. I hope the transition from the prefab to big coop doesn't upset the laying process.
So, tell me more about this run cam. I have a ring system.... should I order another camera for it?

Today, at exactly 28 weeks of age... our little Barred Rock "Dottie" laid her first egg! She has always been a sweet girl, and first-comer to greet me when I go outside. As a baby, she always enjoyed relaxing on the chickie swing... and still does! I see her out swinging away everyday :love

She was a very good girl and laid her first egg in a nest box. I'm a proud chickie mom today!
Here is Dottie and her first egg!

I just have a Wyze cam. I have the V3 it is only $30-35. I didn't want to spend a bunch for a camera and that seemed to be a popular one on a lot of chicken places. But if you have the ring system I have heard a lot of people use those too and love them.
