I LOVE THEM! she has such a pretty egg shape, too. It looks like they are getting a little darker each time as well, but I really like that dark cream sort of color she's got on those eggs!

I just went out to collect Brittany's egg because I noticed she left the box and there was nothing. She did a ghost egg on me yesterday too. I was worried maybe she's eating them but I didn't feel anything wet at all on any of the straw and it didn't look like she ever stood up and ate anything in there.

When I went in to look for Brittany's egg I discovered Catelyn (Prairie Bluebell Egger) in a nest box! She promptly got up and ran out when I walked in there, so I was really kicking myself. She's one of my more flighty girls haha. She has been inspecting the coop a LOT the past few weeks and even more the last few days so maybe I will see her first eggie soon!

At exactly 6 months old Mean Charlotte (Soup) LAID HER FIRST EGG!!!!!!! She has totally redeemed herself. It was yesterday, and another one today!!!
I looked yesterday...I thought it was a fake egg rolled out of the nest. NOPE, it was right next to a fake egg under the roost (very hard to get to). Today I almost missed the one in the nest box. She buried the fake one in the nesting material and there up against the back edge of the nest box was another one. I can't believe I missed mistook them. Her eggs are much darker. I will say she struggles because there was a tiny smudge of blood. One half was a lighter shade and the other half was the dark brown with darker speckles. I will be moving the fake one from under the roost. My younger pullets are the ones kicking the eggs out so they can sleep in the boxes. I will keep the on nest open and closing the other two off.
It was so cute, she walked with me very vocal as to talk about the eggs!

They are actually really close to the same shade. I think it was the way the sun was hitting them. But they have a slight pinkish tint to them I think. It is a really pretty color though, it is like a really light pinkish tinted tan. LOL very hard to describe and my phone doesn't pick up the right color. LOL

UGH on the ghost eggs. Hopefully she lays again soon for you.

But WOOHOO oh Catelyn! I always try to check my camera before I open the box in case someone else snuck in there when I was on my way out. LOL sounds like she is going to be really soon!

WOOHOO on the new layer!!!!!!!!!!! and 2 in a row. Annabelle's first one had quite a bit of blood on it (just smudges but it was around most of the egg, the 2nd had only a couple of smudges and todays didn't have any. I think it must be pretty normal for a new layer. What is odd is her first egg was more narrow than the last 2 so would think those would be the ones with blood on them. Guessing it just needs to get used to expanding?

If you can go out each night after dusk and put the younger pullets up on the roost to get them out of the nest boxes. I had a couple that every now and then would go in mine and if they did it for more than 2 days in a row I went out and moved them and they stopped going in there.

so cute on her talking to you about the eggs!
