Eggciting day, today! I woke up to 4 eggs... one obviously Zoingo, one obviously Speedy... and then 2 others that were smaller and unfamiliar. When I looked back on footage, I discovered the identity of the two new layers! "First egg" posts incoming...!

Today, at exactly 28 weeks of age... our little Barred Rock "Dottie" laid her first egg! She has always been a sweet girl, and first-comer to greet me when I go outside. As a baby, she always enjoyed relaxing on the chickie swing... and still does! I see her out swinging away everyday


She was a very good girl and laid her first egg in a nest box. I'm a proud chickie mom today!

I recently introduced Fluffybutt Brittany... but today, at exactly 28 weeks old, she laid her first teeny, light brown egg! When I looked back on footage... I found that she spent almost 3 hours choosing the "right" spot to lay. It is noteworthy to mention that Speedy stood square in the middle of the coop screaming the egg song for 2 hours during this selection process to cheer Brittany's efforts....

After all that time, she determined that the very back corner under the roost bars was the best location It was so far back, I had to get a rake to roll the egg forward to collect it, LOL... but I honestly expected no different from this silly girl. Here is beautiful Brittany and her first little egg! (Also bonus GIF of her laying location... the quality is terrible cause I had to zoom the video so far in...hahaha)

oh my how eggciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I may be a bit jealous What beautiful girls and eggs! how much do each of them weight? Would love to see a pic of them next to Zoingo's egg!

Great job Dottie and look at her on the swing! That is so cute! mine won't go on the swing at all.

LMAO on Brittany and Speedy,that sounds quite commical! hope she figures out the next box next time!

I have my grand daughter today since she has no school and she LOVES the chickens and getting their eggs. so she got to collect Nuggets egg that she laid today and then we went in to feed the babies and give them some scratch. She was so excited when Annabelle just stayed and let her pet her (she was squatting for her. LOL). I had a talk with Annabelle and told her that it would be GREAT if she would lay so that my Grand daughter could collect her very first egg! So we will see. I am sure my talk did nothing and Annabelle laughed at me for thinking that she would even think about laying anytime soon. LOL

Brittany's baby egg is 32g, Dotties egg is 38g... Zoingo's is 75g today.




I was so surprised to find mystery eggs this morning. I was hopeful that Dottie would lay today since she made her practice nest yesterday... but it doesn't usually work out like we hope/expect so I was kind of shocked, lol!

Sunny, Moon and Nugget still haven't resumed laying... Sunny went into a box for a few seconds again this morning, but that's all she did. Nugget is still MIA in coop matters.

Blackie hasn't laid yet today and I think maybe she's just gonna take today off. We will have to reanalyze her spraypaint/toner tomorrow

My grand daughter is 6 and I have watched her Mon-Fri from the time she was 6 mo old until covid which I didn't have her for a bit, then started getting her again a few days a week so she was around when I got the chicks so loves them. She wasn't around much when they started to lay so she is really excited to get the eggs the days she is here. she started Kindergarten so I don't have her now unless she has a day off and her mom has to work.


ok so they aren't "tiny" to me. LMAO! guess that is why in the pics they looked good size. damn Zoingo's are HUGE! My "massive" double yolker was 71/72g. haahaa. Nuggets are still around 38g I think and Hummers are mid to high 40's. Hummer laid one last week that was 52g and that was on the big side for her.

Sure your others will all get back into the groove soon. maybe they are listening to Annabelle too much and she is telling them to keep playing with you!

Can't wait to see how Blackie's toner is for her next egg!

Nuggets are still around 38g

Speedy is still laying eggs smaller than this. I think she will keep them this size forever hahaha. The egg she laid yesterday was like 31g. She's "suppose" to lay XL eggs... we will see, LOL!

Annabelle too much and she is telling them to keep playing with you!

I'm gonna have zoingo give her a call and set her straight

she started Kindergarten so I don't have her now unless she has a day off and her mom has to work.

Awwwww. I bet that just makes her time with you even more special though! I imagine it's like a fun vacation for her to go to grandma's house and play with the chickens!!!

So... Blackie decided she didn't want to be left out of the egg count for today.

All the girls were tucked up asleep... when she suddenly woke up, hopped off the roost bar and down into a nest box. I let her stay in there for an hour before I went to check/put her back on roost... and discovered a gigantic egg under her.

It's 66g and I'm pretty sure that it's her first double-yolker. Definitely darker than yesterday, and I LOVE the crazy speckle splotches it has! (Husband says it looks like she pooped all over it) here's a pic from left to right of the last egg she laid before "the incident"... followed by her eggs for the past 3 days.

wow on getting off the roost to go lay it. and yikes thta is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! getting darker seems her ink is coming back.

When Hummer takes a day off from laying she is in the box bright and early the next a.m. I watch her pace at the door right at dawn waiting for the rest to come down from the roost and leave. She goes out with them and then is back in with in a couple min to lay her egg. LOL She didn't lay today so guessing that will be her routing tomorrow.

Nugget laid her 4th in a row today which she hasn't been doing so was a bit shocked. They have been doing 2 or 3, a day off, then 1 a day off (maybe 2 if I am lucky before the day off) etc. Hummer had 3 in a row, day off, 1, day off, 2 day off..... Which is odd for her since she has been 6 in a row then a day off since her 2nd egg.

Annabelle just laughed at me. Today was day 8 since I noticed the squat....... lets see how high I can get before she lays. Especially since it was 9.5 weeks from comb and wattles going red till I noticed her squatting. so she doesn't like to follow the rules. LOL
