Aha! I thought so from her cute little face. I'd bet you're right on that being her egg.

@junior67 has standard cochins that I adore... and it's so funny to see bantam cochins. You have a lovely little flock!

congrats on Nugget's first egg :wee
Thanks! It is so funny when they are chicks. They look like ducks. More fluff coming your way.

Are you thinking about giving them a string light on a timer for the mornings? Maybe it is just the time of year, idk. I am not sure if these other girls would have started laying or not without the extra morning light... but it's not a LOT of extra light... so idk.
I have gone back and forth on it. I have battery powered string lights that I got for Christmas that I could use and just get a timer for them, but then I know it can shorten the age they lay till since they only have so many eggs...... so what to do........ just wait and get them in March or later?? or try the light and see if they lay now........ hmmmmmm such a hard choice. LOL

I am surprised by these girls and their 50+ gram eggies... Silver and Hera are both pretty large, so that's not as surprising... but Catelyn is quite petite (I'd say half of Hera's size) and she laid that 52g yesterday which blew me away. I'm interested for her to lay again and see if it's the same size or maybe the first one has 2 yolks or something... it just seemed really big for her little body
can't wait to hear if her first was a double yolk or just that she lays big eggs! My girls aren't really "small" but lay small eggs so not sure it really goes by chicky size. :)

How is Blackie doing????

Nugget is a Golden Laced Sebright. I have 2 Black Cochin Bantams in with her. The Cochins I know are ready to lay but the roosters have been fighting over Nugget today. It is also smaller than my first egg was from my 1 1/2 year old Cochin Bantams. It is a little lighter in color also. We may never know! This is all of them in one picture. Yes, I cropped this to get the pic from earlier.View attachment 2941454
Here is the egg in a regular bowl to give more understanding of its size. I am a kid so my hands are small.

WOOHOO and such a cute little egg! She is so pretty! I just LOVE cochins!!!!!! I know my cochin (the only one out of 3 that has started laying) lays a tannish/pink egg.

And I am an adult and have tiny hands. haahaa so when I hold one of my girls eggs it always looks big. :)

Well Brittany is my biggest fluff-butt and she still lays the smallest eggs. Her egg today was 38g and that's like her normal... then sometimes she gets mad and pecks them for no reason... oh, brittany.... . . .

Blackie is doing AWESOME! I make sure she gets out around the same time each day and gets plenty to eat and drink. She usually starts to go crazy around the 20 minute mark... comes to my feet and waits for me to pick her up and take her back to her "babies" lol.

Today it kind of caught me off guard because when I went to pick her up, I felt all her skin on her underbelly... she has plucked out a large patch of belly feathers to better warm the eggs, and is using them as nest fluff. I knew this was a thing that they do - but the feeling of her skin when I scooped her up surprised me for a moment! She only did this after I gave her the duck eggs... it makes me wonder if she somehow knows they aren't fakies... . . .

Also: Cayuga eggs arrived today! None were cracked. I do think there are detached air cells on most of them, though. Will be interesting to see if any of them progress.

Everyday when I go to take Blackie outside I'm like ...is today the day she's gonna go berserk on me and peck the life out of my arms?... but nope, she has been so sweet so far and hopefully the rest of the time :fl

I think the issue with the detached air cells is that the eggs can progress to the point of lockdown but die from lack of air during hatch because it's not where it should be... I'm not too sure, but I'm gonna try to read what I can on it while I still have time!

That is so amazing on Blackie. Hope she continues it!!!!

Oh on the air cells. I haven't read up much on it. Good luck!!!

Well at 5 am Nugget jumps down from the roost and goes to the nest box. At first I thought it was Hummer since they look very similar in the night mode and Nugget is not normally an early layer even after a day off. So once I wake up I go out to get her egg and see this "huge" egg. I was surprised to weigh it and see it is only 52g. Guess she heard my complaint. Lol. A pic of it in my hand, on the scale, and next to a 46g egg of hers.
