Sansa (RIR) is 1 week older than Salsa (Speckled Sussex) and 2 weeks older than the splash marans, blue ameraucana, cuckoo marans etc... and they are all best friends

were they housed together as chicks? Hopefully if I can't get chicks the week of April 11th from the other feed store I can make it there when they have them the week of the 25th. I am getting my others on April 15/16 so there shouldn't be too much of a difference. But 8 more weeks till I get the order that I will place (gotta get there probably on Tue to put it in, but have the form filled out).

another feed store has them but it is first come first serve so have to get there extremely early and pray you get them. LOL I am going to try as long as I have the day off or work later or something since they have the cream Leghorns and black copper marans too.

Yep! I put the new day olds with the 1&2 week olds as soon as I got them. No one had a problem at all.

Rosie laid again today. Her eggs are sooo big! 70g today. Here is hers next to Annabelle and Nuggets eggs, pic doesn't do it Justice. Theirs are 52&53g today.

Today at 45 weeks 2 days Rosie, I think it was her, laid her first egg!!!!!! 65g!!!!!!

OMG HOW DID I MISS THIS!?!?!?!?!?!

What a gigantic first egg! That's amazing and so exciting!

Gosh it's such a beautiful egg, too! A lovely color and those speckles are so pretty good job, Rosie!!!!

it is a dark brown with some speckles. yesterdays looked like it had blue speckles. hahaa. no clue from what?? LOL it is easy to tell hers from the others right now since Annabelle and Nugget both lay really light tan with Annabelle's having a pinkish tint and most times Nuggets don't (even though when you look them up it should be the other way around). No clue how I will tell them apart once Marshmallow starts laying. And then once Ditzy and Fajita start. LOL

Sure hope I have the right girl and it is Rosie. I thought for sure Marshmallow would be the first but going by personality I am guessing it is Rosie. There are VERY slight differences in their appearance but so hard to tell on the camera. Rosies tail has a bit more white and the feathers aren't as neat looking. And the black on her neck isn't as "neat" looking either but from the camera you can't tell these things. The only way I think I figured it out is when I went out yesterday she had just come out of the coop and she is more standoffish and Marshmallow has always been the more bold one (she pecks at my dog when they are out together, the little dog not my rottie pup. will come right up to me, will go to the wire and check out my rottie pup etc) and the one that came up to me the most yesterday wasn't the one that just came out of the coop. LOL

Lesson learned NOT to get 2 of the same breeds that look alike. LMAO!


speaking of I am debating on ordering a couple of "doubles" this year in case one doesn't make it or turns out to be a roo, but then it stinks since I would have to rehome them after like 6-9 weeks and since I am not NPIP certified I can't sell them for even what I paid and food.. hmmm what would you guys do? since I am hoping to pick some up at the other feed store I won't be able to keep more than 8 then 2 that I hatch.

Oh on the 25th the other feed store doesn't have the Marans that I want but they have russian Orloffs that looks really cool and Mottled Java's that again look cool so guess I see if I can make it there one of the weeks around when I get mine and see what I can get. I just really really want a cream Legbar!!! fingers crossed I can get one!

not sure if it is everywhere but on a local FB group I am in they don't allow it. Technically you can't give them away either but they do allow that. Not sure if it is a state law or just because it is facebook but not sure where else to sell that would be local.......

I think selling livestock on FB is not allowed. There are always chickens & roosters for sale on Craigslist. Non NPIP people.
