I've never had a fresh egg before, especially not my pets egg....

Congrats on your 5 hens laying! I still only have one laying.. my Buff Orpingtons just turned 21 weeks, and still no eggs! It should be any day now!

The comparison between the milk is exactly how I explain it to everyone! My husband compares it to the fat free ice cream and the regular ice cream! LOL!
I am glad you decided to eat them. It made me kinda nervous when I first cracked mine open, I couldn't believe how hard the shells are! It was definately worth the wait! YUMMY!!!

Don't worrie.. I'm like you.. I"m still nervous of eating eggs my Hen(s) Lay.. Mabey beacuse she was a stray who chose me to live with and have her 11 chicks.. so knowing my first experince with a chicken laying eggs.. (even thou i knew nothing of them til they were hatched). Seeing them chicks!! but I know I will get over it fast.

When I asked hubby if he will eat the eggs I collect and don't hatch from the chickens.. he said "why not" "eggs are eggs" and he LOVES scramble eggs!

I wont be able to tell the kids that they are eating Chick chick and her chicklets (when they are old enough) eggs.. they will flip. but once they have had a few batch's of French toast and Scramble eggs I will break it to them.

but about Hatching Store bought eggs.

I can't hatch the eggs I get a Walmart...?
but if i go to trader joe's and buy some eggs I could hatch them?? ohhhh wow we have trader joes here in GA>. Imay have to convince hubby to drive me up to one to buy a carton or 2.

My chickens are a ways away from laying.. They are only 3 weeks old. so I'm not expecting any eggs till spring. so mabey To get over my "fear" I'll buy a few cartons of Trader joe's.. and secretly Hatch a carton LOL> and eat a carton

Well, I was mistaken because I found a white egg today! We NOW have 5 layers. I thought I was going to have all brown...I'm such a chicken newbie

Anyone that has ever seen a video about battery hens and how the eggs you get at the store actually get there would be dang happy to eat their pet's eggs. I was overwhelmed by what I saw and am now thinking of getting some meat birds as well as egg layers.

I hear you.. this is why I dont watch "How its made" when it comes to food products

I think for me it's more of the fact that... Eating the egg that could have been a cute little chick is what gets me.. of coruse I know i need a roo.. and I intend to get a roo. (considering our chicken came to us already "Fertil"). I know when she starts to lay again It will not be fertil eggs.. Not till we get a rooster.

Wow....WOW! You just solved a mystery that's had me scratching my head for my entire life! I learned how to boil eggs from my Grandmother, who told me to always add salt to the water. I accepted this as fact, and did it for years until one day I stopped and said "waitaminute, these have shells, why am I trying to season them with the shells on?"

This was while I was boiling store eggs. I can't believe she never explained it to me. Maybe she just accepted it as fact because she never ate store-bought eggs growing up and for most of her life, and never asked HER mother why we salt the water.

My mind is officially blown.

Do we have the same mom? After telling my mother my hens will eat whatever they find in the yard, she said she will not eat anything I make that has my chicken eggs in it....it's because they will be eating bugs, slugs, etc. (I didn't tell her some chickens will even eat mice...LOL!!) She'd rather stick to nasty store bought eggs, I told her do you have any idea what THOSE chickens eat?

You can mention that besides the mice and bugs they find in the houses on production farms... battery chickens will even eat each other...whether dead or alive

that might give your mom something to think about

I am glad you are enjoying your eggs, I love mine, we have only gotten about 3 dozen so far, but I am loving it! My dad announced that he probably won't take any of our eggs, he said he doesn't like to eat eggs from chickens that he knows.

He lives 2 hours away, so probably won't be much of a problem anyway, but I was laughing hysterically.
