All these threads about dogs killing chickens and people killing dogs that kill chickens, and people complain about a thread about a dog doing something positive. That seems just plain weird and completely out of kilter to me.
Can't imagine how this thread still lives....the good ones always get closed it seems. And it's usually for things just like this.....
I think the point the above post is trying to make is this:
If it makes you "sick" and the OP was courteous enough to post a warning....why, oh, why in the world would you then voluntarily make yourself "sick" by opening the thread, gawking at the pics and offer an opinion on how you were then, consequently, sickened by the thread?
It is completely off kilter when someone does something to themselves and then blames others when it results negatively....no one was twisting your arm to view this thread.
These kinds of threads are great. They show a LGD doing his job. They show NATURE in action...this is how it's done, folks, in the real world and there isn't a thing wrong with a dog protecting his area. How often do people get to see the raw side of owning chickens? Us people in the country get to see it quite often and it is informative and educational. It can prepare you for protecting your chickens and gives one a realistic idea of all the things that come with livestock ownership.
Owning chickens isn't all about fluffybutts and diapers on cute little chickens....sometimes it involves blood and death and everyone needs to know it. If you don't prepare yourself for it, then you see threads with big exclamation marks and boo hoos about how all my chickens are dead and I don't know what got them!
Reality isn't always pretty. This is reality. If you don't want to relate to, educate yourself for and prepare for the reality of owning and caring for chickens.....don't open the thread. It's real simple.
As for putting chicken owners in a bad light? Since when was it a bad thing for a person to protect their livestock? Again...reality sets in. No one is going to come down on chicken owners if a terrier kills a coon. When last I looked, coons were not a protected species. I can't imagine that they will become so.
I applaud the OP and her feisty little dog!
