I don’t check my eggs to see if any have died (not really sure how to do that…?) so I think they are ok?? Lol I’ll find out soon!! They are due Saturday I just put them on the hatching deck. Ill do a Facebook live on Saturday - my friends/family like to check it out periodically through the day. Nothin better than cute fuzzy chicks hatching!

Just get a bright flashlight, and candle them. If you see a dark ring around the egg its dead, and if you don't see them moving there dead also.

By this stage they should be really active

I tried that once but I must not have done something right. I’ll give it a try again tonight. Might as well try! That way of there are ones that have died I can get them out of the way for the healthy ones. I’ll let you know if I can figure it out and what the results are. The first (and only other time) I incubated eggs - 15 of 16 hatched. Hoping to have at least 14 hatch this time

New to the site but saw several hatch a long threads - so fun! I plan to collect some eggs this week and get them in the incubator on Sunday. Would anyone like to join? Most of mine will be barred rock and Buff orpingtons…some will be mixed…i have 5 very busy roosters and 50 hens

My first time using the incubator i didn’t do any candle/light checking. Just put the eggs in and let the machine do the rest. Had 15 of 16 hatch - not bad! But now I’m wondering if some of that was beginners luck. Might do some candling - luckily tons of folks on here post about everything so there will be much research for me to do this week.

i hatch silkies. I have hatched 14 so far. I do candle them within a week to see if the veins and chick have started. If there is nothing within a week i take the eggs out. That has only happened a couple of times.

I’m working late. Chicks are due tomorrow. Those little rascals started hatching without me! My husband called and said there are five out already! I shall post pics later this evening

Ps - I did try candling. I think there is a chick in all 16 eggs but I could be wrong. Two of the eggs are dark brown and we’re very hard to see into.

13 chicks have hatched so far. They were so loud last night lol and very busy. The last three chicks will likely be out by noon today. These are barnyard mix though I’m sure there are some pure barred rocks due to them escaping the fenced in area everyday and going to work in the garden. Our buff Orpingtons arent as free spirited lol.
