Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Awesome! It's so neat to see them moving around. Thanks for sharing!!

Sure no problem I think I am going to do a candling diary of the eggs I just startd yesterday be interesting to see how they develop. It will me my own experiment and neat to see how they grow.

Man, what a day. Son with Spina Bifida is having problems. Glad I don't have any eggs hatching right now. Had to call an ambulance for him. Poor guy, has had problems off and on since he was born. Hoping they can get a couple of things done with him this time. Two different surgeries is what he needs.

Never easy when your baby is sick no matter how old the "baby" is. Having a child with a chronic illness takes a lot out of mom too. Make sure to take some time for yourself & relax a bit Mom. You need to take care of you so you can take care of him. HUGS!!!

.

Well, here are the results! 34 healthy chicks out of the 36 eggs that were fertile. Giving the other two eggs the rest of the day, but I'm almost positive they are dead...

So, the chicks are 3.5 weeks old now. All 34 are still alive and are doing great! I counted today how many roosters and hens I should have today. I counted 24 roosters and 10 pullets. yay..... Just my luck there. Now time to find homes for all the roosters (The hens are already sold

Heidisgran, I would love to file a claim with the USPS but...

The eggs all came to me in one piece (albeit with detached aircells) and they were NOT labeled as hatching eggs ANYWHERE on the box, nor with a "do not xray", or a "this end up" or ANYTHING but a poorly written "fragile" label, so they wouldn't have known to treat them any different. They eggs were individually wrapped in bubble wrap, then layed on their sides (!?) in a loose bag made out of taped bubble wrap and the surrounded by newspaper, not very tightly packed. They were loose enough they could easily shake around in the box about a cm in either direction, but not so loose they could bump into each other so they arrived in one piece.

So it's not the fault of USPS... It's the fault of the shipper. The USPS couldn't know they were shipping hatching eggs since they weren't labeled as such, nor to keep the box facing a certain way... And since the eggs were all on their sides it wouldn't have made a difference if they kept it properly oriented or not. :(
