Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

uh oh the water i used was to cold oh god did i kill them. They were only in for a couple seconds.

I dont think a couple seconds will kill them.....

it's too hot that could cause instant death (over 104F), cold is something that happens any time she gets off the nest (esp if the barn she's in is unheated, you know?)

for any one else, you can warm the water up on the stove and get it to 99F degrees for a float test using a meat thermometer. 99F is not really that hot so it won't take long, water boils at 212F

I hatched some of your marans and wellies a few months back, the color on the Marans eggs was PARTICULARLY impressive, there is nothing like actually seeing it in person! :) can't wait til they start laying!!
Hi Viola, yes I remember you. As I recall you had a great hatch too. I appreciate the pics of them you shared with me. Did your BCMs turn out 2 roos 2 hens like you were thinking?

Well I just candled again. I'm 90% sure one egg is dead, no change. The other egg still has a small air cell, but I always candle from the same side (I don't turn the eggs at all) and I normally see a light space under the dark shadow. I candled again this afternoon and the whole egg was almost completely dark, I did still see some viens (I think) near the air cell. Could the chick have moved? Grown? Maybe still some hope?

Just hang in there, I know its nerve racking, I prolly would be out of my mind and I understand how much you want these babies....Just let whatever happens to happen, you have done all you can do now just give it alittle more time. Right before my eggs went into lockdown the last time it was just all black, I couldn't see any definition or movement out of 98% of them...so it getting darker may very well be the sign you want..
