This little one is really causing a ruckus in there....would it be better for me to take it out? The new chick is running all around knocking the other eggs together and rolling them over trying to find a friend. Is it safer to leave him in or take him out?
Also, the humidity is holding strong at 80% now - should I take out one of the plugs briefly to get is back down to ~65% or should I just leave that alone too?
I don't know...5 months gestation.........she is under 1 year...............not long I would guess.
The ultra sound is a great idea..........It will help you know about a feed program..........
Don't want to over feed, but she will need some extra toward the end.
I really miss my sheep. I had registered Corridales.
One year they went nuts........and I had changed their feed program prior to breeding to a high protein diet.
I (they LOL) had almost all triplets a few twins.. Worked my self to near death.....
'As we grew older, it became more and more difficult to care for them,.feet trimming , lambing in the middle of the night ect.
And now chickens the past 5 or so years..............Its nice. Do not have to get up every two to four hours to feed orphan lambs........![]()
Bummer. I am sorry..............Well I think I lost one. As far as I can tell she was about 75% zipped and her already hatched sibling rolled her over causing liquid to pool up around her beak and drown her. I've taken the already hatched ball of energy out and put it in the brooder and I turned the egg that I think has died, but I haven't seen her move since - not even any breathing, which was very easy to see before.
Kind of a bummer too, this was the first one to pip, and the one that was chirping the most in the begining. Frustrating to know that she was only about five to ten minutes away from being hatched when she died. Oh well - it's my first hatch, so I knew I was going to make some mistakes. It's hard to tell where the line is when I should intervene and when I should just leave things alone. This is one where I should have stepped in a little sooner.

It's hatch day!
Well it may be a while before I can get any more pics. Since the first one hatched the humidity has spiked to 80% and the windows are all fogged up now.![]()
I tried to get pictures of my Am eggs that I just purchased.......
The color just did not come out at all...............looks green.
but they are a lovely blue a little darker than robins egg blue...............
