Have hope. there are a few people here that have worked with this..............and maybe they can help you.........so I am pretty bummed now, my poor single egg for hatching has a ton of odds against it. and saw at lunch that it has a saddle shaped air cell, guess it never really clicked before when I candled. have seen on some threads they pull through fine, others not so fine. guess we shall wait and see....

I used a cotton ball soaked in warm water to help wash the stuff off. As of this morning, I have 4 hatched and 3 pipped out of 8 eggs that went into lockdown. And I also have 14 wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucanas in the bator on day 13 - all were looking great on day 12. Yay! Here are 3 in a separate bator drying:
I had the exact problem with one of mine today and helped it out, washed it in the sink & it's drying in the incubator. I'm glad we both had success with it. <3I have a lot of reading to catch up on!!! I've been busy since lockdown on Tuesday. My first chick was having trouble zipping, but sounded strong by its chirp. It made a huge hole 1/4 way around the egg - never seen anything like it. When I saw that a piece of eggshell was stuck to it, I realized that it may be stuck to its shell. So after about 14 hours since I saw the pip hole in the morning, I decided to help it out. Then I realized that it had some egg white all over it - the feathers were pasted against its body and it felt hard. So I took a chance and washed it with warm water in the sink before putting it in another incubator to dry. I'm glad I did too, because it made all the difference in the worldnow it's happily chirping and fluffing up with its siblings. We had one but DH misplaced it? So we are just going with the flow lol! - Honestly having one last year didn't really help us much as you will recall. Remember we only got one live hatch and the poor thing was weilded to the inside of the egg! He died a week later AFTER I went and got him a darn mate so I still ended up with a lone chick to raise! She is doing awsome! Here she is out in the yard with the other two Maran chicks I picked up to keep her company. ( chicken math moment!) She is laying ( started to lay white? but now they are cream and getting darker to a normal brown egg) Right for an Amber star except her ear lobes used to be Red but now they have grown out they are red at the edge and white all the rest which is wrong for an amber link! Darn - bog standard leghorn I bet! - So much for my Silver grey Dorkin eggs last year! That arrived green and scrambled and then arrived right and I cooked them! lolHI Helen, Good Luck with your hatch..................Do you have a hygrometer?

It can be scary the first time to put them inder the faucet..but I have found they just kind of relax and melt in my hand when I rinse them off.Quote:

I had one chick who hatched pretty wet, it wasn't assisted though. after a few hours, that chick was completely glued to the floor in a very uncomfortable position
I think next time I will use your suggestion of washing the chick off, seems extreme but much better than what I experienced that time!!
