Jan. Hatch A Long?

Okay, everyone seems to like Marans. Guess its time for me to hatch some.

Darn, have to order eggs and start another batch to incubate.

Does anyone know about frizzle seramas I heard they hatch day 19 so I was wondering if I should lock down now and add others tonight do y'all think that would cause any problems?

I heard that about seramas. I doubt the frizzle gene has anything to do with it. I would lock down all at the same time. A day early won't hurt the other eggs. If they do begin hatching early, you wouldn't want to open up to add eggs.

I'm sure most that like Marans, do so for the egg color. There are some other breeds that lay a very dark egg too.
There's a line of Barnevelders located in Oklahoma (originally bred in MO) that have some beautiful eggs. The eggs from my Sandhill Welsummers were very dark and most Penedesencas lay a nice reddish maroon egg.
I've gotten several variety Marans eggs that weren't dark at all. They were from good lines but the new breeder didn't select well for egg color and lost it.

That's why I have them. I have birds from two lines; one lays a nice dark egg, the other not so dark. But since I 've been collecting eggs to hatch, she has laid 7 (not so dark but darker then most breeds) eggs in 10 days

Thanks I figure I would split the difference with silkies and put them all in this afternoon. All of my buff silkies are doing great and don't want to lose any if something I can control

I've hatched quite a few Seramas..don't let the small size trick you..they will hatch when they are ready, just like any other egg, they can go from day 17 to day 24! Mine liked the day 21 most of the time. Once in a while, I would get an early bird.

Lock down on day 18.

Trying to find a hatch a long to join. The ones that have 50 million people in them overwhelm me because I can't keep up.

I've been around chickens most of my life but have very little experience incubating eggs.
I just set;
7x Splash x Blue Marans
5x Marans x EE
5x Splash x Black Copper Marans
8x Cream Legbar x Black Copper Marans
2x Cream Legbar x ?
Ooo, I'm jealous of your splashes! Where did you get them. Are you one of those lucky ones that has a yard full of chickens? I want a splash something so bad.
