Janoel Incubation Experience

All sounds good HNF! My fingers are crossed - or they will be after I finish taking out the last of my chicks for this week - of 143 viable eggs I have 121 chicks! Woohoo.....when I ordered 14 dozen eggs I really didn't stop to think about just how many chicks that might equal!!!! All I was thinking was making the long drive to pick up the eggs worthwhile! Oh well, one more lot to go and no more incubating for me for a while.

Ok, I already have the eggs in the incubator but I am hand turning them. After these hopefully hatch I will try the automatic egg turner. Thanks for letting me know that it works and I look forward to seeing if your eggs hatch.

I'm also new to byc and I have a question. How do you quote somebody's comment? Thanks

Just click the "quote" button at the bottom right of their posting and it will automatically place it in the top of the reply box and allow you to add comments underneath it - as I have just done! Enjoy.

Good luck! Any pipping? I'm now on day 14 with my chicken eggs. Lost 3 out of 14. One died around day two, the other day 5 and the next day 10 all had blood rings. The remaining 11 seem to be doing fine :).

Sorry everyone!

It's been a whirlwind. At lockdown I found the humidity skyrocket to 99%! I decided to vent to bring it down when I saw a pip!

SO they started to pip on day 19. First hatch at end of day 19. Several more today, day 20. 5 left to go!

Will post some pics tomorrow!

OMG! That is a lot of eggs! Are you selling those chicks or doing meat birds?

Maybe temp a little bit high in the incubator (as mine all are) which leads to slightly early hatch. Never mind as long as they are all happy and healthy.

A bit of both! We ended up with 127 of 143 so I am thrilled. The hens will be some for us as layers, some as future breeders, and the rest for sale. Their brothers will go in the pot and off to market in time. For now they are eating an amazing amount and filling the shed with cheeping!!

All sounds good Lyss, can't wait for some good news for you in another couple of days. I think yours will be hatching along with my last ones this week - what are yours? I have Silver Spangled Hamburg this week.

So I still have 3 eggs in there, but I don't think they are going to pop.

12 out of 21...

I had 4 pip and drown. I will do lower humidity in the future on the front end.

Also, I opened the bator to help one and it made 2 severely shrink wrapped. Ended up helping them too! I won't be opening to help until all pips are completed to hatch in the future! One died after hatching.

I am sad it wasn't better, but the ones that hatched are very vigorous!

AND my two chocolate orpingtons that were my breeding project both did great!
