JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Good luck with those! What kind of a hatcher are you using?
Thanks! I have two LG still air bators at present. I use the newer model as the hatcher since it has the nice deep base.. I'm actually having great luck with it this winter after not even planning to hatch in winter in the first place. Not sure if it's the weather helping or my skills improving, but things are definitely better than this summer. :/

DH and a friend have actually made a fridge bator for me but I have yet to see it.. :p (just a matter of transporting it here). Definitely got to get it by spring though!!

I feel so much more relaxed this time around then I did the 1st time. Last time I was constantly checking on the incubator and driving myself crazy over thinking everything. Temp and humidity are holding pretty steady. Tomorrow morning I will weigh all the eggs and see if I have the humidity at the correct level and then Saturday I will candle the eggs.

I haven't even been tempted to candle them early so I'm proud of myself for that. Just letting them do their thing.

About candling.... last time we had 1 clear on day 7 and I tossed it right after. I recently read that some people keep clears till day 10 and then only candle them on day 10. Should I hold onto clears till day 10 this time? Anyone have a clear at day 7 that ended up being something on day 10?

That's good Renee572, I was with these last 4 I hatched. Wasn't expecting them to hatch because they weren't turned the first 13 days, so I didn't fit & fiddle with them much. Ended up having the best percentage hatch that I ever had. Good luck with your eggs. I will be setting eggs again on Sat. Keep me posted with you hatch progression : )

Okay! I set my MG Bantams today! I bought 12 but the seller included 8 extras! I'm so excited. I got a variety of colors, but I mostly wanted the birchen and lemon blue. My Goth chickens are 4 days from lockdown. Wow, that soon, already? I candled them today and I think I saw movement in all 4 of them. Crossing my fingers!

I have 3 eggys due in a week, 2 greens and a tan, early on I found out a bunch were clears or had a crack.

Since 3 is not a lot to hope for a week out, I am now going to hatch these 4 fertile+1 dark tan (I don't think dark tan is fertile, but what the hey)

eggs from a gal friend.two light tans are SFH, to to the right are mystery eggs.

I do okay mixing various age chicks, I just put them together when they are all walking and stuff. I do give them one on one time with chicks on hand.
some times in the dark, with heating pad so they can cheep and cuddle.and before you know it , pals.

3 weeks diff in this group. 3 chickens is not very much, so they were happy to have extra. small hatches which I set anywhere from 2-8 eggs are nice for me. I like to have them in the house so I can visit them, before they stink. and they are spoiled with their chicken quilts.

so cute. Thanks for sharing. I love the 4th pic, is that a frizzle? I'm glad to know you do fine mixing age groups. The lone chick I hatched in december is almost 4 weeks and a few days after she hatched we got her a buddy that is now 5 weeks old. My eggs in the incubator will be 6 weeks younger then the one I just hatched in december but I am hoping at some point I can mix them all together as well as mix them with my big girls who hatched Mar 2014. Will probably be quite some time before I get them all mixed together but I think my 4 big girls will be fine. To me they have always been super mellow and easy going. I honestly don't even know the pecking order in my group because they all seem to get along well.

I can't remember if I posted pictures here of my 4 chicks from my hatch. If not here goes, if I did sorry. Not the greatest pics, they were moving around too much lol.

Cute pics!
