JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

That's half the battle with this incubation art....you really need to have accurate equipment. And finding it is like looking for a diamond in the rough....
True!! Who knows what is accurate? My hen is Accurate---so I copy her. She hatches her eggs usually late day 20, early day 21. I adjust my temp to get my eggs to hatch at the same time----no mater what the thermometer reads!

I had to add this pic because the chick is sitting in an empty carton section. He's been there for a while, so I guess he likes it.

Edit: he left that spot for a bit, but then went back to it. Lol! Next time I'm going to put some empty cartons in the there for the chicks to sit in!
a few of mine did that too, I think I even had one that climbed into someone else's empty egg. They are too funny!

Okay, So here's my crazy hatch results from my Florida eggs I drove 1400 miles home...

I started with 26 silkie eggs. 15 Silkies developed and made it to lockdown...12 hatched...one piped in the blood vessel and passed and two had late deaths.

I started with 13 Orpington eggs. Only 3 developed. Two hatched.

This round was very interesting because there were a whole bunch of blanks; I call them Ombre eggs. But, most of the ones who did develop~ really developed. They didn't quit along the way. Some of them were incubated in the mini and some were a mix of the Hovabator and the cabinet.

Humidity was at 50-53% day 1-18 and 65-70% Lockdown. Room temp at 70 degrees and humidity levels in the 20's.

I am pleased with my results because so far these are by far the best yet... A long way from hatch #1 which yielded one chick who lived 9 days :(

Now onward...As I am on Day 20 with the poopy eggs that I didn't set with the others. Silkies & Orpingtons too! But, no action in the bator yet!

How's everyone else doing?

I have 12 out of 16 hatched or hatching. They are eggs I brought back from Florida. They are black, birchen, blue and lemon blue, but so far the ones that are supposed to be blue have hatched black.

Also, the remaining 4 are the lemon blues, but none of those have pips. The one lemon blue that did hatch is black, lol! I can't tell any of them apart.

I'll get pics soon.
