JANUARY ...OUR FIRST HATCHING OF 2013 ANYONE? come join!!

As you can see I usually set big and hope for a least 1/2 to hatch.
I also spread my setting out so that I can get my stock rotated so that I have room to put them.
Nice, what kind of incubator do you have?

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new to BYC. I've been reading lots of posts, learning some new things too.
I set 13 shipped eggs in the bator last night- silkies. Tonight I bought a dozen chocolate orpington bantam eggs from an auction on here. I'll be setting those when they arrive. And I have 19 lavender orpington eggs on the way. Hopefully I will have good hatches

Just put Araucana eggs in the Sportsman on Monday and the post office just called to tell me my Blue/Barred Rock eggs are in so they will go in tonight. I told myself when I unplugged my bator after the NYD hatch, that it would be turned off for a few months. Then people started offering some good eggs on the Paypal swap thread and I just had to have them. I hatched out 2 Buff Orp chicks and 4 Gold Laced Orps in my NYD hatch. I can't wait to see them when they feather out.

As for brooders I have 6 going in my spare bedroom...LOL. 2 of those will become empty by the end of this week when their coop is finished. I am trying to find someone that has a pick up truck so I can go to Lowes and get some plywood. I can fit 2x4's and PVC in my car but the plywood is too big.

Hey everyone!!!
I'm working on reading thru this thread & wanted to share with yall

First week of the new year was pretty rough....
We had a coyote attack & cold related losses
sad.png
They happened the same day/night too. Coyotes got a muscovy duck, and 2 barred rocks. The cold got my 2 EE chicks who had just transitioned to outside living. I think the big fat scovy drake pushed them out of the coop since the door was all messed up & they passed a &way under the coop, in a nesting barrel - those 2 lil ones were like my little parrots & enjoyed coming inside and perching on a folding table holder.

So I decided to fill up the bator w/ 42 eggs. 2 EE/EE & the rest are all EE/BR EE/NH EE/RIR & potentially EE/Australorp

Wasn't sure if anything would come of it as my oldest Roo, Road Runner(EE) just started doing his flash dance & mount 1/2 way thru Dec.

on the 6th this month I set them on in -- Last night I could not contain myself & candled.... at least 25 are starting to vein some ???s & a few that didn't look like anything at all. I'll be checking again this weekend to see what & who has developed more!!!!!

Good luck on your hatch Sticks.

Brooks, yes I agree this is addicting! I had chickens a few years back, just for eggs. Then last month my husband said it was a shame letting the old coop go to waste... That was all I needed to hear

I ordered 7 Swedish Flower Hen eggs, my hubby's from Sweden & I wanted to give him a piece of home. 0 hatched! I was so upset they were doing fine until 2 wks in, then all 'quit'. Soooo, not to give up, I then ordered Isbar eggs- on the way- and ordered 10 SFH chicks, should be here any day. I ordered my personal fav. 13 silkies, 3 days in the bator... Today I got in 6 lav. orps and have another dozen on the way. But I'm most excited about the bantam choc. orps I am getting in 2 wks! I think he's wishing he had never mentioned the old coop

But my obsession has begun, so no turning back

haha! Sounds like something I would do... Except that my coop can only fit four hens, and it's not even finished being built yet. I have no idea what eggs I am getting to hatch or when... Hopefully soon...

I have SFH eggs coming in on Friday and more orps coming in sometime this week or early next week. I have Isbars, Bresse and Cream legbars coming in the spring. Who are you ordering from? You may want to check out the Paypal/Hatching egg swap here on BYC. Lots of good quality eggs that aren't coming from a hatchery and the price is right too.
