JANUARY ...OUR FIRST HATCHING OF 2013 ANYONE? come join!!

I'm a day behind you draye -How's time passing for you? It feels like time is dragging-> when when it comes to the eggs & flies by w/ everything else it seems UGH!

This afternoon I checked the 1/2 that didn't show any veining the other day & now so far 34 out of 42 are going good!!!! This is very exciting since I would be happy if even 1 was developing!

Chicks the 26th & a week later 1-3 litters of rabbits are due! Busy bee

Time passes about the same for me, I have my hatches stretched out so I pretty well have little chicks about all the time.
I don't do the fertility and air sack check on hatching like most people, as long as it isn't stinking in t he bator I wait until the end of hatch to check the fertility and such.

i'm now on day 24 :( On day 26 (sunday) I'm going to open them carefully and if no life toss them, if sign of life try to help them out of the shell because at that point they'd just simply need to get out.
Well thats sad but happens

Good idea . eggtopsy You want to se what happened . Did yuget any ? Forgot what you wrote So true if there is life they will need help out..

I candled them and they look like heads are all 3 up by the airsac. They fill most of the egg. Sound about right for being ready to hatch? I mean they were free eggs so no huge loss I just want some eggs to hatch. I'm tired of the "i told you so" response from people about winter hatching.
Umm, can you see the beaks moving in the air sack? can you see a pointy triangle poking outwards from the air sack? Do they smell like farts??

Well i had 3 or 4 BBS Orps moving day 17 I was never so sure of a hatch...but now its toward the end of day 21 and not one has hatched
The temps in the Hova started at 98.1 for day 18-19 and i had the humdity at 75 which i do often shouldnt have hurt but???? then tmeps been 99-100.2 since. No chicks unless they will hatch later since the low temp. but iam not holdin g my breath
I am stumped.1-18 in the Gen.
tomorrow is lock for the 2 good LO eggs from Hink.in the Gen so no swings.

Why do you not check? And most importantly: HOW??? XD I would go insane if I couldn't check on them every four days!!!

How, you know with a flashlight, candle them.
I don't because I feel like the less you handle them the better the hatch rate. I do remove offensive eggs should there be one.

I know how to candle them, I just wanted to know HOW you could control yourself from not candling them every day!!

i decided to open them today. I carefully made a hole in the air sac so if they were alive i wouldn't hurt them. NO movement. No breathing. They were fully formed, yoke almost completely absorbed. Looks like they died just maybe 2 days before hatch. It makes me so mad. I know in my heart that the construction outside shaking my house caused trama to them and killed them. I did the egg topsy today after I caught the incubator just before it fell off the table from the construction causing the house to shake. I don't keep it near the edge.

I had 3 other eggs in an incubator that were doing great but got blood rings caused by the vibration. :( They were only 2 weeks into the incubation. this all makes me so upset. They only gave 2 days warning that they were going to start construction. If i had a good 2 or 3 weeks I could have held off on starting any other eggs. I had planned to set more eggs a week from today but am not sure now. I have to wait until they are done with construction or set my incubator at someone elses house away from this construction. :(

I currently have a 10 day old chick that is alone. I wish I could get one the same age to put with it. The poor thing is alone.

Sweet- really sorry about your hatch, that stinks! I have had eggs go over by a few days & finally I'd open the tops just a bit if I saw movement I'd put them back in the bator to let them finish hatching. But I always felt better 'knowing' they were still alive. I know you're not supposed to do thing like that- BUT I have and it seemed to help them...

By the way I candeled the rest of the silkies last night, I can see veins forming in all but 2, and I just couldn't tell with them so I am leaving them to check in a few more days. Only prob is in 3 of the ones forming they have detached air sacs. I was careful with them and put them back- maybe they will be ok?
