JANUARY ...OUR FIRST HATCHING OF 2013 ANYONE? come join!!

Thanks Gabrielle and Pug
Actually Both arent doing bad ...
The one is doing perfect... now .....did i say they had been sticky?
Well dumb me I cant see super well had operations on both eyes and found yesterday morning they both had their eyes pasted shut !
hmm.png

Since opening the one is perfect and the other have had to redo his eyes like 3 times He can eat and see now even though one seems just part open

Today..I saw hi m watch the other take a bite of soft food so he took one bite and then screamed for me to feed him. Little spoiled bratHe is eating well too. Voracious so good sign.He doesnt walk much though and rarely pecks the ground but his eyes have been shut off and on so maybe later.

They ARE pooping,

My 3 measly Los eggs that looked good are in Lock day 21 maybe see a pip on one but not a huge one and sadly towards the wrong end.GUH.... thats it. ...

You should look that up...? Maybe you can save it, but I'm not sure.

Do not worry to bad about a pip at the wrong end. I have chicks that hatch out backwards and they are usually fine. I only ever had to help one -- but they must have zipped before you attempt to help them out of the shell. The chick I helped was to big to squeeze out backwards. every time I saw him push on the shell I'd pull it apart a bit. Just remember to go slow !

Thanks all for the input..
.Yeah ihad one pipped at the worng end too that hatched but he hatched fast. Dont know if thats what saved him or what but im not even sure this IS a pip just a discoloration on the shell silghtly raised maybe at an angle to the light. not like a real pip i dont remember seeing it before but it could be the light too

A few days ago i thought i had a late pipper on my last hatch then my son came in and said it was a piece of fuzz and some dark guck fro m the earlier chicks LOL .
LATER
I wasnt seeing things.. It was a pip. Now the shell fell off a little (pic)Sort of pipped in the middle but small end middle
LATER STILL
I cant stand to watch but he hit the shell twice in a couple hours so not dead yet
Must have air someplace in there. I did have one on candling that had the air cell wrong end or was it the last hatch a few days go...???they blur.)

Soooo we are on day 10 & I candled 2 days ago - the 34 are still going strong. Sadly though when putting them back in the bator, I dropped one of the good ones on top of the others!!! The shell cracked in a rounded area the size of a dime w/ 2 hairline cracks running out a short distance..... it didn't tear the membrane at all & I put electrical tape on all the cracked eggshell - there was still movement after the incident & I will check it again in a little bit. Has anyone else ever had a mishap w/ an egg & able to salvage it & have it hatch successfully?

I feel soo bad about it, one little noice was all it took to startle me & loos my grip :(

Some ppl use wax Others use finger nail polish I dont know if any hatched with either as germs can get in with a crack but .Maybe some have.

A thought ..i wonder if that superglue stuff they use for deep cuts instead of stitches would work?
Even elmers maybe its chiild safe.?I havent had this happen but i am wearing surgical gloves now because my fingers are so dry i might do it too..i think you might do more harm if you take the tape off but if it comes off in the humidity maybe you might want to try some other thing
GOOD LUCK!

Its the next day for my pipped LO egg(PIC on post #134
. Day 22
Slow poke had his hole bigger and pipped in 2 spots today ? Never seen that before . Then was like that some hours today no progress so helped him out been over 24 since he pipped
I peeled the membrane away where he had chipped off the shell and took a little more shell off... wetted the membrane then put him back
He hatched just a few minute ago about an hour or less after i got him going,.

and is laying there and wiggling .Hope hell be ok
Hes a big guy!! No wonder he was at the wrong end couldnt turn i bet.
Might have seen another egg move when i put the light on it ..but maybe just me thinking it
.Will see later dont see any pip in either of the other 2 eggs
