Morning Brook !Morning Roxanne.
so true Roxanne. There are several that I have now that I should have culled on the first day. I didn't have the guts to do it. I am too soft-hearted. The one thing I have learned from these chicks is to not jump the gun and help them out right away. I let them go until the last possible moment before I assist. The chicks are all perfectly normal now and you can't tell them apart from the other chicks health and size wise. A few have died but I have had more survivors than deaths. I tell myself it is in GOD's hands.LESSON TO ME ; DONT GIVE UP TOO SOON
He was truly HOPELESS and i was SURE he would die .If i had the heart i would have culled him first day . such a mess..but I just couldnt do it.Im too weak
My lesson was dont give up too early on a seemingly totally hopeless case.
Even if he does die at least he had a few days of life cuddled in my lap and fed and walked a little like a real chicken.
FYI He is a HinkJC baby and truly the prettiest baby i ever have had ..so fuzzy and big.
My fingers are crossed for this little fighter and i have a glimmer of hope now .
POWER TO BLESSING.......FIGHT ON!!!![]()
Tape on his toes because first day all curled up he tore up his neck all bloody with his own nails.
Sleeping today all comphy, flash woke him.

Welcome PInky and good luck on the hatch!!Hi! Just set my very first eggs this morning! 14 Silkies. Shipped eggs. PA to CA! Packed well...arrived intact. I let them sit for 19 hours big end up. Of the 14 at least 5 had funky air cells. Now they are all in the bator.... big end up and I am NOT going to turn or touch them for 7 days!So far so good?![]()

Yes it is! I check mine on day 5 to start, then about every 2-3 days until lock down. Seems every one has a different idea, some say you can candle every day & won't hurt, some 7, 14 & 18- then some ppl say they never check... I do know that with the Isbars I put in 3 days ago I have not checked & have not turned them either. After day 5 I'll put them in the turner to see if what I've heard will help since they were shipped. One good thing for me is I have the SFH chicks now to play with & the 2 buff orps, so I can let the eggs alone a bit more"Only check them every 7 days!" everyone says, but that is a lot to ask for a chicken addict!!! XD
That is an awesome and inspiring story about the little chick you helped!
I am getting very impatient and having a hard time sitting on my hands. LOL Just saw a little star crack on #2 egg, so I'm holding my breath. Nothing on the other 11, but today is day 20, so I'm just trying very hard to be patient.
Aw! I hope it continues to get stronger each dayso true Roxanne. There are several that I have now that I should have culled on the first day. I didn't have the guts to do it. I am too soft-hearted. Thank you! i am very excited and a bit nervous! I have a brinsea mini advance . Right now it is full of 14 silkie eggs! I have them proped up on the pointy end and I plan to just let them be for at least 5 days. If I have more than 8 or nine viable at lockdown ( wishful thinking, I know) ill have to get a bigger bator for them to hatch in! We will see how it goes.....thankfully I am very well educated thanks to everyone on BYC!
