Java Thread

Tacey that was the only thing I could think of...that the girl has a 'thing' for her owner and was 'flushed' as you said.
Birds can develope "love" affairs with their keepers...and this little girl must be in wuv of you!

She's the only one out of 4 that is bossy to everyone too! She pretty much deals out the pecking order of who eats first, where she wants to sit, etc...

Both my Javas are red faced/combed/wattled including the earlobes, that's why it was shockingly cool to see the earlobe go completely white when I calmly pet her/holding her and completely back to red when I walked around or put her down. It all stays red though otherwise. I don't see the Black Java doing this though.

You know, I have a Black Java Cock bird (seen in my avatar) who is not SQ but such a lover.
He will race to see me when ever he hears my voice, and will "tap dance" around my feet and cooooooooo...a little love song at me.
he will look up to see if I am watching, and continue his love dance, wings down, tap dancing as cocks will do around a hen.
I will have to watch his earlobes & see if they change color, oh it is funny to see.
One day he may well jump on my back!

I mentioned this to Monte, and he said all Java cocks are sweet hearts.
None the less, it probably isn't healthy to for me to encourage him to "love" me as he does.....

No other birds do that but him...I cannot even talk to another human without that cock bird running to see me at his pen fence.

Someone asked how many eggs their Javas lay. I have two Mottled Javas, each about a year and a half old. They are both smart, active, aggressive (in food gathering and pecking order- not to people) and have strong personalities and they are my worst layers. At best, they lay 3 eggs a week. They frequently take a laying vacation for no apparent reason- not molting or broody. Their eggs are very pale brown and a medium size. I also have a B.O., a Jersey Giant, a cuckoo Marans, and an older BLR Wyandotte. They are all individuals and I wouldn't change any of them!

My Blacks lay an egg a day, medium for POL and large to X-L for the older birds.
One hen lays 2 a day sometimes, for a week or so.
I mentioned her pages back toward the beginning of this thread.
They have not slowed for moult nor weather.
Coop light year round as there is only a small N facing window, more like a air vent.
Lights come on at 6 AM, and off at 4:30 PM, year round.

See post, scroll down to see average egg size & color.

Definately must be in love.
Thanks for the chuckle.
I once had an african gray goose that was obsessed with me. She wanted to rub her head on my legs when I was in the garden. She was whispering soft love words to me all the time. I nearly cut my finger off when i was pruning a tree when she startled me. I finally had to rehome her. She had to "let me go" and learn to be a goose again

I am looking for a couple of juvenile hens in MO, TN or KY if anyone knows of anybody who has them for sale.

They mate for life you know..she may still be pineing away for you....

OK everyone, we in Washington State are going pink for Breast Cancer Awareness, we are supporting BYCers that have or have recently been diagnosed with BC.
To support them, we have taken pink avatars.
Note: Mods say we cannot have an avatar of any organization or company or one that solicits monies for any organization, nor can it contain adult content.
Then after this month we can change back.
Help show support & have the whole country go pink!!!!!!!!

Thanks all!!!
