Jersey Giant lovers

Mine submit to my geese. I don't think they're going to stop much that really want them. I'm no longer concerned about the cat that's hung around the property for the last year though.

Don't get me wrong I'm just talking about my hens, but I hear roosters are formidable.

At 6 months old, my main cockerel will run and check on his girls if they give an alarm call. He is alert and calls them to shelter if he sees something. I just don't imagine him fighting a threat, at least not at this age. My Jersey Giants are like puppies, they aren't aggressive. It's their sheer size that keeps them safe. The best rooster I had was a bantam Cochin. He actually did defend one of his girls from a HAWK and won.

I once saw a little falcon dive at the Jerseys that were twice it’s size. It was unsuccessful with its attempt. I think a fox is starting to try to go after them in the morning, might also affected their egg laying.

I'm sure mine would pitch a fit if something grabbed them, they use their size to push and peck the Buckeyes away from the food so I have to spread it out a little.

We got 4 eggs yesterday! First eggs since the snowstorm that hits us a little while ago.
