Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Kathy did you get an answer from NYRed I sent him a pciture of my Colbalt and he agreed it was old feathers that should molt out Hopefull he will be blue by the fall for showing. He did say they would be disqualified for it though. Seminole they arent splash giants at least not like any of mine when they were chicks. My splash chicks were yellow with black markings.

I dont know unless you keep them penned and in the coop until after show season. I will wait and see what happens to mine Its hard to keep them out of the sun in the sunshine state.lol

Hi Sugar Sand,
I was wondering about leg color. I see on post #243 of this thread, your blue and splash hens, which are very nice, have different color legs. Do splashes have light legs and blue and black have the dark legs? I know the bottoms of the feet are supposed to be yellow. Just want to know what to look for when my chicks grow up. Good Luck.

Also thought about a sunblock for chicken feathers. SPF 40 spray for show birds. Someone needs to market this kind of product. No more sun faded feathers and locked up show birds.

Billjr yes the legs on the splash seem to be lighter than the blues but they do have a greenish color to them The yellow on the bottom should not be noticable on the top of the feet or legs either. I have seen some giants like that. Thanks for the compliment on the birds I try very hard to keep them in good shape. A sunblock would be great but I dont see it in the cards lol

I asked NYREDS about that, too. ..... If the yellow on the bottom of the feet extended up on the sides, if that was a DQ. He didn't answer that question in his PM though.
I have one from SandHills that has the yellow like that. Well, he is already a DQ or point loss with orange eyes and other poor traits anyway, but I wondered.

More pics of my jg chicks. The ones with the clean floor in the brooder are 4 days old. The mess they made is 7 days old. I can't believe how fast the wings grew from sticks to nicely contoured feathers in 3 days.

Cute chicks! I have chicks hatching today! And one of them hatched yesterday it looked like a pure breed JG! But for some reasen it died! Do JG have issues when hatching? It was a day early.

The darker one in my pics hatched a dayish early. It took all of 10min for it to get out of the shell. The other took a little longer but not too long. They are both fine so far as you can see. I'm sorry your chick died. I'm new to this and don't know why that would happen. Maybe had something that was'nt right inside of it. Good luck.
