Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Sarnia, Jersey Giants are a single-comb breed; just check the comb!
Thank you Wynette, I didn't think of that!! Wyandotte's are rose comb.. a duh!
Whoo Hooo... Looks like I got one more big boy.

They are currently running around with a very mixed bag. I think they are extra wild, due to the leghorn influence in the big brooder (thier hatch brothers/sisters).... I need to get the pens done and move them away to such roudy influences. (at least these kids I get to pick thier friends )

Thanks all

Sarnia, I do find the same thing - if I raise up a laid-back breed with some flighty ones, they often do end up a bit flightier than they normally would be! lots of time spent with them while they are young helps!

heh heh... after much much looking and seeing a lot of your posts on this thread I wanted to put a pic of a chick my guy found in our garage. I'm pretty certain she is a giant and I have looked all over for her owner. No one has come to claim her as of yet. At least I think she is a her she is pretty young and has had it pretty rough. (I think someone threw her out to be honest.)

With those yellow legs and the comb looks more walnut\pea?... I would hesitate to say pure JG... But could be a mix...
Here is one of my girls at 3 weeks:

Are you keeping her?
Do you have other chickens?

Chickens can make great pets... Sorry I am an enabler... I want you to be sucked into the madness that is this wonderful hobby!
Good luck... If you are going to pass on the train to the chicken(funny) farm... post your location.. I am sure someone will help out...

Hi! I know it has been a couple of years since you posted about your Blue JG. Jethro is amazing! I have black and white Jerseys and am wanting to add blue. Are you selling any or no of anyone who is? I found Indigo egg and Maria's Jersey Giants. Anyone else? Thank you.

Since Jersey Giants are rather rare, I can't imagine why somebody might have dumped the chick. The one pictured might be a cross as already mentioned. Keep us posted on what happens to him/her. Very good of you to take her in! Do you have other chickens?

No she is my only one but she is friendly and still no sign of an owner. I have been asking all around. We live in a small city so it is odd...

She is quite happy. she sits on my lap and and on my shoulder. She loves to hide in my hair. I have a couple more pics while she was being cooperative she loves to snuggle.

And one of her feet:

I have fallen in love with her but I feel it wrong just to keep her without looking for her owner... I thought if I could identify her breed it might be easier.

Well, she does have the yellow feet required for a Jersey Giant. This is a sign: you must get more chicks.

Yup! The JG's I've had like company, and refuse teddy bears. If you want to stay small on size, get 2 more of the same class. (Wyandottes, RIRs, Delawares, Barred Rocks) They get along well with others in their class.
