Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Good morning, folks! I had a great time at the APA Nationals in Lucasville, GA this past weekend. I met with Bob Vaughn, president of the National Jersey Giant Club. Spent a good deal of time with him - he's so passionate about this breed, and he left me feeling even more enthusiastic about breeding them!

He brought a cock bird that sadly was in a bad molt, but an awesome specimen - just huge, and that nice, long, flat back that we look for! He also brought a hen, who was also huge, and who won best of breed. He even kindly removed her from the cage to show me a few things that were especially good about her. It was great! I did take a few pics of his birds, and will request his permission to post them here later.

Hope you are all well, and are making plans for 2013 breeding season! I know I for one am SUPER excited about it!
Wynette,

By any chance did you happen to ask about Master breeders?
I just recently joined APA so next yr I will try my best to be at the show....

No, I didn't. It's really not something I'm personally that interested in...it's a program of the APA and although it's a fantastic program, I honestly didn't even think about asking - sorry!

high every one :) can anyone of you tell me how long it takes for jersey chicks to show yellow feet ??? and do blue jerseys get yellow feet to ???? we bought 10 blue and 10 black giants and at 6 weeks all i see is pink to whiteish feet other then that they look fine all feathered out and growing nice

Awesome!

I wish all those big poultry shows' could come to California!!

I would be happy to go to the State Fair but my chickens are so used to 50-60F weather... not 100-113F weather...

Sigh...

The ABA National is going to be in Stockton CA The last weekend in January (3500-4000 birds or so) and he APA has had their National show here several times.

The CA State Fair is in an air conditioned building. There are several large shows in Calif .....from the south to the north. PM me if you need the show schedule info.

That's quite generous, Walt!

I did get a few pictures of Bob Vaughn's birds, but haven't gotten them from my camera yet. Also, I need to ask him if it's okay for me to post here, first, but if he gives permission, I'll be doing so sometime this week.
