JESUS Blessed my Life this week

Well my God teaches us to do just that, take care of others...that is why as Christians we are commanded to give up the first ten percent of our wages to God...(the church) who then distributes it to many needy people.
When I was young I was raised with very little. My father was a very devout and faithful christian man and he gave his FIRST 10% to the church. It really irked me back then because it really did cut into what our family could have enjoyed. We had food on the table but lived in hand me downs and even dumpster dived for food at times. But my dad was firm in his belief that he was going to give his first 10% backl to God no matter what.
When it came time for my siblings and I to get educations our family couldn't afford it. My sister was extrememly annoyed that my father would give to the church but not put her through college. But you know, we have been so blessed. None of us have educations, but my sister and I have both done very well, and I know it is through our fathers faithfulness to God that brought this about.
Anyway, not all give thier 10 percent, but some give in other ways...and yes, we are more than happy to count our Blessings...even when it is a small thing like our air conditioners getting fixed:>)

I am not super religious, really haven't been to church in decades. However...

Just because someone appreciates the small things in their lives doesn't make them evil, stupid, or the cause of world tragedy. Perhaps it is a good thing one person is happy with what they have rather than whining that they don't have enough designer shoes or can't have "enough" to keep up with Jones. I for one, BEAM when people seem genuinely happy about things like air conditioning and spare tires.

Great point Andrea! I find in my life I often have to count my blessings just to stay sane...there are always small Blessing amid the insanity of life if you take the time to see them:>)

I haven't time to read all the posts on this thread right now.
I just want to add my praises as well!

And yes, this thread had an agenda when it started. It was to rub god in the faces of those posting on the thread in favor of a different master. I, personallly, feel lucky to have NO master. I think it is time we started taking care of each other instead of praying someone else might do it.

luvmychicknkids - I totally respect that you seem to be an intelligent woman who thinks things through. I happen to be a christian, but I sure as heck don't exepect that everyone blindly agrees with that I think. I do agree with you that the world would be a whole lot better of a place if we focused more on taking care of each other, than focusing on trumpeting our beliefs. Again, I am strong in my beliefs, but I don't judge you or anyone else if you believe differently.

I do have to say that I don't think you can implicitly say that there was an agenda in mind at post #1. That could be your opinion, but you have no way of proving that.

Those who set up this site, for whatever reason, allow all types of discussions, and allow faith-based discussions. My opinion is that if we don't agree with something, just let it alone and don't comment - Unless of course, you see discussion that could cause a human or animal to be hurt as a result.

Peace out, y'all.

Speaking as NOT a Christian, I think it is a foolishly biased mistake to assume that someone who prays for their a/c to be fixed is not just as saddened as anyone else is at reading the kind of news stories referred to (elderly dying in heatwaves with no way of staying cool).

My a/c is certainly not something *I* would pray for -- personally I don't believe it's right to pray for stuff for oneself, except for things like courage, patience, tolerance, that sort of thing -- but I dunno as one person really has the right to tell anyone else what THEY should or shouldn't pray for.

I have to say I get really tired of people on *both* sides concentrating on finding The Ways Those Other Guys Are Bad (I don't mean just on this forum, I mean in life in general).

Seems to me it's more useful to assume we're fairly much alike at heart, and work on finding COMMONALITIES. Like how we're all sad when bad things happen to people.

Sittin' down and shuttin' up now,

Pat, sort of atheist-buddhist-somethingorother

Yeah, but my particular church is only open on Sundays. And I'd really hate to have to join a religion forum! You chicken people are my kind of people!

Religious forums are fun too!, though I don't see any harm in asking for prayer....Problem is people get upset when they see or percieve that their particular brand, or un-brand of belief is getting dissed....
