July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

I need to better learn what I am looking for in later development when it gets more difficult to see in the eggs during late incubation candling. I still had some eggs in there that didn't fully develop. Want to know how I know? My husband busted not one, but two of them this morning. At the same time. My house will never be the same again. We are all going to smell like this for the rest of our lives, I swear. It is that awful. I thought the early weeper was bad. I was mistaken.
These chicks were definitely not fully developed. The eggs were full but they definitely weren't full of chick. It was just chick... stuff..So he didn't kill anything, don't worry. There is only one more chick working on hatching and then it looks like they're all done. I will candle just to make sure there are no internal pips at the end. At least I know for sure what that looks like!

Woke up to number 2 hatched and number 3 zipping. Still nothing on egg 4.

So far...

66 quail out of 105. I have a feeling I have a lot of infertile eggs in this batch.

1 jubilee out of 4. I heard to give them an extra day or 2.

My daughter and our broody finished tied. Both were given 6 eggs and hatched 3. We had one late quitter in our batch (probably day 19 or so). I candled it when I got the three out and there was no movement and an obvious blood ring. An eggtopsy revealed a dead fully developed chick but a full yolk. 50% on the hatch isn't too bad I guess. I waited until they were dry and it was dark then slipped the incubator chicks under momma hen. I was worried until one of the new ones stumbled out from under her and she looked it over, tucked it back under and settled back in. I'm a teacher and we start back Monday so this is my last hatch until spring probably. I've enjoyed following along with everyone and best of luck to those still going.

Congrats!

I almost forgot to post a pic of the 3 incubator chicks. If all is still going smoothly when I check on them tomorrow I'll get a pic of the whole family.
