July 2017 Hatchalong

a bit of both as some look clear and very liquidy and some with a small amount of veining but not much else.

Bummer. I am also hatching shipped eggs, and have had a lot of quitters, and a bunch of my Orpington eggs never developed. Now that we are at day 18, I can't really tell what is going on in there. Hopefully this means they see getting big enough to block out the light. At this point if I get one or two of each kind I'll call it a win. Big waste of money. But a learning experience.

It's my first time incubating. This doesn't help either:

This is my first time incubating. Today is day 21! Yesterday I saw 3 eggs rocking but this morning no movement and no pips yet. The anticipation is going to kill me!

Awesome! How many eggs? I'm on day 18 1/2 for my first batch!!!

Hooray! I have the 9 Ameraucauna bantam and 8 Golden Campine bantams that I set last Wednesday, and 7 assorted Orpingtons from My Pet Chicken. I had the incubators in my breezeway, which is air conditioned, but apparently not well enough. The first set of eggs got up to 104 twice. I was afraid they were all dead. However out of the 17, I saw embryos in 11!!!! I just set the Orpingtons last night. One had a detached air cell, but the others looked okay. I also have a dozen Rhode Island Red bantam eggs arriving tomorrow.

How do you know if the air cell is detached?

Just 7 I collected myself from the coop. How about you?

Of the ones on day 19, I started with 17 (12 ordered but extras sent). I'm down to 9. These got overheated a couple if times in the first few days so hopefully they don't come out with extras wings or anything.

When you are candling, you can see the air cell move around, like a bubble of air in a water bottle. It will move to stay at the top, instead of remaining at the fat end.
