July 29th Hatch along..anyone due for a hatch around then?

they'reHISchickens :

Our chicks that hatched Monday/Tuesday have a new mommy!
One of our black orps wants to brood so I thought... what have we got to lose? We really don't have enough coops to hand raise this bunch and was going to put them up for sale. This morning I slipped a chick under her to see what would happen.
Chick snuggled under her quietly.
An hour later all is still going well so I placed the 4 FBCMs under. Left them food and water right in front of mama.
4 hours later all is well so I ask Him : Do you want to keep that splash orp chick? Mama splash orp keeled over in the last heat wave. Good hen, great layer, He says yes. Splash chick goes under her too.

So mama is happy. She is talking to them and mashing up the chick food for them. Hopefully they will bond to her and listen to her. She will integrate them into the flock properly and that's another headache gone:)
And we still have 5 EE chicks left to sell. Have to go thru my email list!

The mom hen mashes up the food for the baby? I so want a broody hen to watch with babies. I have bantams now, I think it may happen.

The 19 and 20th days are hardest for me. I feel like they will never pip. Once I see one little pip my mood will change to all joy and optimism. Lol!!

Oh we aren't laughing, we are enjoying the picture! That is way cool. The little beak is right there, can breath, and all you need to do is wait for the zip. It could be a while..or, it could be within a half an hr...once they start to zip, they are usually out pretty quick. The other eggs will all pip at different times..hopefully, all within 24hrs. Sometimes, it may take a day longer for some. We just can't know for sure. Usually though, the 21st day! Have fun!!

I have had both of my D'Unccles hatch out- they ran all over like crazy monkeys right away.

However I've had 2 of my Tolbunt Polish hatch out tonight- and they are just laying there, they move a little and then lay there again for a while. They seem so letargic- is this normal? Will they act ok in the morning?

I've hatched D'Uccles...they are little goers...and the polish are a larger fowl..I think it's cute how different the two are..the large fowl will kind of creep around on their belly's until they get strong enough to hold them selves up and walk. They should be a lot more active by morning. Now I have to look up Tolbunt Polish. I've hatched Polish, but it was a blue crested...that's all I knew about them. The two turned out to be roos. Pretty cute. I have a Porcelain D'Uccle, and a Mille Fluer..what is yours??

I heard a peep! We are not due till tomorrow but was still getting bummed. "is there any life in there?". So excited I heard a li'l peep. At least I know we are still in the race.
Marans eggs so could not even see movement when I set them for lockdown.

They are both Millie Fleur- one is dark body w/ gold head & the other is lighter on the body w/ a gold head. Maybe boy & girl? maybe just differant down color!!! Not sure- I just plan on viewing all the chicks as boys til they turn into girls for less disapointment!!

The two that hatched out yesterday are up more today and toddling around (The D'Unccle are like race car drivers) the 2 Tolbunts that hatched out overnight are kinda how the 1st 2 were last night.

There are a few others pipping right now, and I can only tell 1 silkie pipping so far. But they are due tonight- so everyone is on scedule as far as I'm concerned. There have been a few days that the temp went from 99/100 down to 98/99 for a bit (I don't have digital thermoters) so some could have a later hatch time.

Thanks for letting me know it is normal for them to creep at first- was a bit worrisome watching them compared to the banties!!!

Dang it! The only egg that pipped yesterday is dead now. The egg was cracked more like it was trying to get out, but I think momma hen smothered it. I didn't think about that when momma was sitting on them when I checked this morning. I figured she knew what she was doing. Are you supposed to separate the eggs that pip?
