July 29th Hatch along..anyone due for a hatch around then?

oooooo can I join this one too?!?! I joined another one..... but it's not very active!!!!

Set 1st mailed eggs on 7/9 pm:
9 D'Unccle
5 Silkie
Looks like no silkies are growing from this batch & 3- 5 D'Unccles are
hmm.png
I got them for the Silkies......
will be pitching the non growing silkies tonight- pitched 4 D'Unccle & 1 lighter shelled silkie egg last night

Set p/u eggs on 7/10:
18 Tolbunt Polish (12 forming great) Have 1 other that may be good- it is still in there - pitched 5 clears last night
36 silkie eggs (really- asked for a dozen- this is what I get, she didn't know the age of the eggs- so I took them all
(being candled tonight & will be pitching the non growers tonight as well)

Set mailed eggs 7/14:
12 GL/Tolbunt Polish eggs (haven't candled yet)

Bater is full.......... really has lots of spots still on the turner. But I believe they are suppose to have a space between eggs. Good thing most are bantie eggs.........

Only candled the growing eggs once so far- double checked the non growers (from the non silkie eggs- the white eggs- not the brown silkie eggs) last night to pitch some of them...... tonight I will check silkie eggs- when it is darker...... almost time!!!

Wow! You are going to have a lot of fuzzy butts before you know it. Even though you are having to toss a few..I think you'll get a lot.
You asked for a doz. silkie eggs and got 36? Score!! Good luck, I started this thread with a doz. RIR's. I only have 5 that are viable, but if you go back a few pages, you will see why. I posted a picture of the way I got the box. Unreal. I'v never had a box come that bad. The eggs?? None broken. She packed them well..so, it certainly is not her fault at all that I only have 5 that are doing well. I'm considering myself lucky to have the 5 at this point. Now just hoping that they all make it. And folks wonder why the P.O. gets blamed. I know the eggs are sent fertile. The handling can be rough, some harder than others!!

I just had a guy give me almost two doz. barnyard mixes. He was buying my ducklings, I find out that he has chickens with roos..I can't have roos..and I say..hmm, maybe I will have to buy some fertile eggs from you sometime. Well, he comes to get the ducklings..and brings me all these eggs...and...TWO TURKEY eggs! Do I hatch turkey eggs..never! LOL...They are huge.
ep.gif

I actually know someone that will want them..pretty sure. He said they are Rio Grand. Looked them up. Good for eating I guess.

When I asked this elderly farm man, what kind of chickens he had..this was his response. Well, I have some red ones, and some black ones, and I have some that are white with black spots. I have all sorts of different colors.

How cute is that? He was so excited to bring them and give them to me for free. I put them in my bator.

Not sure if the turkey eggs will make it, but I hear they are about the same as ducks..so, if I can hatch ducks, maybe these will make it. I told him that too..hope I can hatch them! Oh dear..I will have to let you all know how fertile they are. How much do you want to bet, that they are allll fertile.
smile.png
Good ol barnyard mixes..can't beat em for being good egg layers, and hey, that's a lot of what I want any way. Will have to go to my state thread and let every one there know what's coming. Maybe I can sell some..don't need two doz.

Bater is down another 26 eggs- all but 2 were silkie eggs Only ? eggs in there now are 2 silkie, 1 D'Unccl (& the dozen 3 day in the bater GL/Tolbunt eggs- did candle them tonight
hu.gif
there are 5 for sure developing- those got a green stripe) Will recheck them & the 3 ? eggs in a few more days. Pitched 24 silkie, 1 Tolbunt (blood ring- was my ? egg), & 1 D'Unccle egg way darker than the other D'Unccle eggs & no movement.

She sent me 36 eggs cause she didn't know how many would be good- she was tossing them in coffee cans, putting some in her baters, etc. She said some could have been between a week or two old. So she sent all the splash & blue pen eggs she had left (19 splash, 17 blue) There are 4 good splash eggs, & 12 good blue eggs- plus the 2 ? blue eggs- so 20 have been pitched for being clear or having blood rings tonight. And 16 of hers are left in the bater.

So what's left:

Set 1st mailed eggs on 7/9 pm:
4 D'Unccle eggs left (3 good, 1 ?)
9 D'Unccle
5 Silkie- all stayed clear Looks like no silkies are growing from this batch & 3- 5 D'Unccles are I got them for the Silkies......
will be pitching the non growing silkies tonight- pitched 4 D'Unccle & 1 lighter shelled silkie egg last night

Set p/u eggs on 7/10:
12 Tolbunt Polish & 16 Silkie eggs left (2 silkie eggs are ?)

12 GL/Tolbunt Polish eggs (did peek- 5 for sure going- but too soon to say on others)

Gotta say- 44 eggs is still alot!!!

I'm down to 44!!! that is still alot!!! Could go down another 10 easy between the ? eggs & the 3 day in eggs- we will see.

Your box looked awful!! I was surprised to see the eggs intacted!! 5 with that shipping is amazing still!!

You'll have fun with barnyard mixed chicks- we hatch out a few dozen of them each year for fun (and since the hens aside from the polish are egg layer breeds- they still lay awesome!!) You get such a variety with color on them!!! I have some of our barnyard mixed ones from this year on my 2011 page..... have to update it soon!! All the birds are at Mom's though- and it is an hour drive- so have to pick a day!! And not one as warm as the last day I tried to take pics!!

You should hatch the Turkey eggs for fun- you could sell them easy I bet!!

eeyore75 - I'm sorry the Silkie eggs weren't fertile. Major Bummer

I agree she should hatch them!!!

I didn't actually want ALL the silkie eggs to be fertile!! There were too many of them!!! I was hoping that with the 36 unknown age ones I'd get at least 12- and I did. The 5 shipped ones were a bit disapointing- it would have been nice for my friend (who the silkie eggs are for) to have another bloodline. But she will still be happy with who hatches from the fertile/growing ones!!

I only wanted the Tolbunt Polish (& the GL/Tolbunt Polish)- those are mine....... I'm not sure what I'll do with the D'Unccle chicks if they hatch out- they were extras with the shipped silkies (mixed auction)

Well I hope you have a great hatch, just the same!

I candled a few minutes ago and threw out 3 Serama eggs. I'm pretty sure none of my Sussex eggs are fertile, but I think it's because they just started laying when I put those in the incubator 3 wks ago.

I left all 7 Sussex eggs in there, and then I have two of Mrs. Fluffy Puffy's eggs in there, and I still have 9 Serama eggs growing. I tryed to candle the Marans, but with no succes.
hmm.png
So that makes 27 eggs in the 'bator cook'in.

Boy, everyone has a lot of eggs cookin.

I am hatching my turkey eggs.
And not sure anyone will believe me when I tell you this..maybe some do it as I do. I always candle 24 hrs after putting my eggs in the bator. If you look closely, you will see a dark spot floating in the middle of the yolk of those that are fertile. I don't toss any of course this early, but I know that is the bullseye showing up in fertile eggs..! You won't see it the next day. Well, I saw that dark spot floating around in both the turkey eggs. Now, to see if I can hatch them. I did ducks, I guess they are like hatching ducks.

eeyore, sorry about the silkies..even though you don't really want all of them, it would be nice to get a couple. But you still have a lot of babies coming your way!
smile.png

And yes, Mrs. Fluffy, good luck on those Marans! So hard to see anything past 4 days when candling. Pretty dark. There are some of my reds that I have in that are hard to see through now. But boy, are my others active..and big. I have some Nankins in there, a couple of days behind them. Two out of three are doing well there.

I know I will like the barnyard mixes. I was just thinking this morning before I got on about them, and how fun it will be to see what pops out! He told me that a lot of his that hatch are black, so, I'm assuming he has some black sex link..oooh, good egg layers.
