July 29th Hatch along..anyone due for a hatch around then?

I am joining ya! I have marans eggs from peachick that I set on July 10th. I expect them on the 31st. This is my second hatch experience. I just yesterday closed up shop on my first hatch. I hatched only one little wheaten ameraucana from that batch. I am going to follow the rules religiously on these marans eggs.
I candled them last night which was 7 days. There were 5 that I think are no good but I don't trust myself to decide the are gonners yet because they are so hard to see through. I did put them in the "probably not" row. Now I have 6 that I think I could see veins in... so hard to see. But I did see one little embryo moving!

I have some crazy mixed-up chickens scheduled to hatch around the 30th. The fathers were australorp, blue-laced red wyandotte, and easter egger. The hens included black crested white polish, ancona, cuckoo marans, silkie and easter egger. I am excited to see what I get.

The are being hatched out the old fashioned way. A silkie and an EE hen are sitting the eggs for me.

I am a little concerned about the hatch date being off for some of the eggs, I broke open one of the silkie eggs (entirely by accident!) and there was a little chick inside. Still alive. I was devastated. After comparing it to pictures, I think the little thing had to be at least a week along, but the hen had only been sitting for 2-3 days. I'm guessing the heat (over 100 degrees!) might have caused the embryo to start developing without the hen! So we'll see what we get soon enough!

Christie,
Sorry to hear about your Ameraucana hatch I was hoping you would get a good hatch. I hatched some from Denise also and they are very nice.
I was concerned when they arrived because PO handled them rough so I changed my usual incubating strategy. The air cells looked pretty bad so I incubated them for three days before switching on the turner. I also left them up right (big end up) during lock down and resisted any temptation to candle them other than days 7, 14 and 18. I think it helps if they not handled much.
Got 7 out of 14, and some hatched that had completely detached air cells.
Good luck.

Christie, Ravie..welcome..not sure Fog...welcome anyway if you aren't hatching..experience here is a good thing for us. Advice!

I also have some crazy mixed up eggs..good way to describe them.

It will be a surprise for sure..they aren't the ones that will hatch at the end of the month..but they were given to me not long after I put my RIR's in that are due the 29th.
And, two nankins that are two days behind them..maybe, they usually hatch sooner.

Good luck to all..I know those marans are hard to see through..good call on waiting. I also have what I call the.."not sure" row. Can compare to others when there's been enough time to really see a big difference.

Shucks I wish I had known what to do about the air cells before hand. I blame my own inexperience. I did not really realize what the air cells were supposed to look like. Now I do.
Denise is awesome and her birds are beautiful. Wish I had more knowledge and experience when I tried to hatch her eggs. We are so happy to have the little chick that hatched! I will keep trying. I am going to copy down your hatching strategy for goofy air cells so I can refer to it in the future if need be.

Sorry y'all I didn't even pay attention to the thread title I was just looking for how Christie did on her eggs from Denise. I also have BCM's and the eggs are really hard to candle. Since I know the exact age of all my eggs and know they are fresh (so they should not explode in just 21-23 days) I never cull any BCM eggs unless they are obliviously bad. Like whole egg glowing when candled before lock down. I also run them at a lower humidity than some of my other breeds until lock down. Good luck to y'all.

Me too! Well...I have 3 FBCMs due to hatch on 7/30! I also have 2 Splach Marans. I can't wait to see them! I will post pics when they join us!

Welcome Clover..yes, pictures are going to be sooo fun. Good luck. Seems like a few folks are lovin the Marans! They are pretty..and they lay great.

I guess I'm cheating, but I have a batch of chicks arriving on the 29th: 8 buckeyes, 7 mottled javas, 5 dominiques, & 5 gold polish. I've successfully hatched quail & pheasant eggs before - just didn't feel like doing it this time. Hope yours hatch out great.
