July 4th hatch-a-long

Ok, momma hen was on the ground when I got home from church...chicks were all standing at the doorway to the coop by the top of the ladder. Guess she hadnt quite gotten them talked down yet. I put them a little food and some water kindof by the nest. Momma went back to them then and was showing them how to eat and drink. Just taking my cues from her and letting her do her thing. Looks like 4 out of 6 is what I've got. And all 4 look different. It will be fun seeing what they turn out to be. They all came out of olive egger eggs. I had 1 to break on day 10 and I gently wiped off the yuck on the other eggs and cleaned the nest. Was crossing my fingers that I'd get any to hatch. 4 is more than double my flock (of three) so I'm very happy.

Congrats everyone on the hatches! Nothing here yet but one was internally pipped last night so hopefully soon.

Blah! False alarm. 2 silkies and no Ayam. (This is what happens when your at camp and your daughter is overseeing hatch day.) she sent me a pick and I was like "umm...that is not an Ayam chick..."

So she just candled the Ayam...no go. Had her open the top of the shell since no movement. It pipped internal and died without piping the shell
