***JULY HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

Ok, Mama BO is on lockdown for Sure now. Since it is nearly 100 degrees outside, I have her nest(she made one in an old laundry basket) in my guest bathroom tub. She had 2 babies hatch out 3 days ago(maybe it was 4 days ago already), which I suspect was part of the group I put under her from the other broody that left the nest. They are strong and doing well. I am hoping they are girls. However, Mama BO has started getting the veloceraptor expression and sound going in real earnest now, so thinking the other babies will be on their way shortly. Which is kinda what I was expecting - so they are right on time. Amazing how the mama's know this stuff. She has plenty of eggs under her, so I am hoping for a really good hatch. Last weeks hatch was 5 out of 11, 2 were quitters, and I suspect the 2 that hatched a few days ago were from that batch as well, so I would consider it to be 7 out of 11 - not too bad!! I am also thinking most of those are girls as well. Which I am excited about. They are feathering out really pretty quickly; so I am keeping my fingers crossed they really do end up to be mostly pullets.

Off to finish chores. Hope everyone has a wonderful afternoon!!

It's pretty unlikely that they've contaminated the other eggs unless your other eggs were heavily scrubbed clean. Some people prefer not to clean/scrub their eggs (obviously removing the big chunks is ok) because you can remove the protective bloom which covers the egg and protects it from contaminants getting through the shell. If your clean eggs had this layer removed, then they may have been more susceptible to any bacteria.

I am coming in late, this is my second time, and I don't know what to do!

I had a broody hen last year, and I moved her, she seemed to settle down, I checked the eggs, all was going well. We were gone for one night, and when I got back, she had left the eggs and returned to her original nest, still broody, so I bought chicks for her, and she raised them fine.

Two of those BO chicks went broody, within a day of each other. They are in my normal egg laying nests, and the nest is small enough that I have never seen two chickens in it at the same time. So far, I have not seen either hen off the nest. I put eggs under them July 8, 16 a piece. This is where their mother wanted to nest.

I do have a dog crate, and maybe could get another one. It is warm in the coop, and my coop is not big enough to put the crates in. They would have to be in the run. I am so very heistant to move anyone. Should I just leave them where they are?

I have been opening up the run, and letting my Stars, and rooster just free range. The eat so many bugs they hardly eat any other feed. So my point is that there will be enough space.

I've had so much going on the past few months I'm not on my game again yet.
Started feeling like a failure, cause I've spent so much and gotten do little. I was heartbroken over getting no Wellies to hatch. Man okiehen can wrap a batch of eggs like nothing I've ever seen and not one made it.
And I DO think they shake the boxes coming in here! I even had that one woman at the PO add it to a cart of boxes after telling her what the box contained and then she puts it on e the bottom all cockeyed and snatches it up, slamming it on the counter! I kept telling her to be careful and she just flips it over and over trying to find a code! I talked to my carrier about her the other day and she knew who it was before I could even tell her. Now I have names to ask for at the PO if I have to deal with her again. That was thw day I came up with the Egg Train. Since I had just lost my parents and still trying to deal with a dying laptop, I'm worried the others who have joined must think I'm a nut case. I am, but sometimes there are issues you have to take care of and in order to get a job done. I have some kind of inheritance coming from my dad. Hopefully it will be enough for a new pc, but at the same time it feels like blood money.
OK......enough of that.
My 2 little EEs are doing pretty good. Loud, but oh well. I swear 25 can make less noise than 2.One does have a foot problem though and not sure it I can fix it. The toes curl, so I massage them a few times a day and I think they ae getting better, but might be wishful thinking. She/he is walking better now, but walks on the top of the toes. First day it stumbled and fell and couldn't stay off it's back, but gets to the feed and water now, so I'm hoping it works out.
I got antsy about 10pm and candled some of my eggs. I can't see through the FBCMs and they don't seem to be any lighter feeling, no Games are developing (tried anyway since I lost my roo and want to get another out of him. Found bloodrings in some of the Silkies. I stopped after about 10 eggs. Hopefully I'll get something from those FBCMs. Th are eatting everyone out of house and home, so they better pull there weight.
I also found a nest in the yard tonight! I have a like bantam Aussie (I think that's what she is) and she's been with a little Lt Brahma. I've had her a month and the first day my grand daughter took her out of the box I brought her home in and she laid an egg as she picked her up. She didn't lay again for over a week. Then she got out of the coop and try as I could that little bugger got away every time I tried to put her back. We cleared the whole backyard and no eggs were found. She laid an egg last week and then aagain this week, but she was out too. Just thought she was an occassional layer. Tonight I found a nest at the side of the dog run of all places. Four little eggs. Don't know if they have a chance, but setting them anyway. Been hot here, so chances are they won't hatch, but she was going back to the same spot these past 5 or 6 days, so who knows.
Sorry I keep going on, but I have no one but the people on here to talk to right now and I'm pretty much a thread killer (gee can you tell why?).
Anyway it'll be nice if I actually get a hatch at the same time as someone else again.

2 pips of the last 5 duck eggs... 1 other is definitely alive, but looks like it's having weird development issues, like it's really far behind or something. The other two.... I'm thinking they are gone, but I will give them until I take the peacock eggs off the racks. I'm thinking 4 of those have grown even though it's hard to see anything through their super thick shells. They go on lockdown next weekend!
