8 chicks, 7 pips. Double-wide just pipped! I will be checking to see if this little guy needs some help, but everyone else has been very independent *knock on wood*

That's so funny because I saw Tenino and recognized it as a place I was (web) house hunting! I love the Palouse, but you are closer to my favorite beach (Ruby) than I am.

I don't have breeds, so much as mutts and a plan.

Two of our hens have muffs and beards, but don't lay blue eggs. Three of our hens lay blue eggs, but no muffs or beards. Out of 8 hens we have 2 black, 2 blue, 1 splash (the blacks lay blue, the blues don't and don't have muffs/beards) so we are hoping to get some strawberry-combed, b/b/s feathered, clean-legged, doe-eyed (the blues have Andalusian eyes) project babies in a couple of generations.
We hatched out 20 around the 4th of July and have almost 40 in the bator now (er, 30... ten are in the brooder.

)
We are getting some cute ones that don't meet those goals though, so we may keep them until we know if they are pullets or cockerels. I don't mind an extra pretty hen... but I have to be picky about the roos I keep, both lineage and plan wise. We live in an area where there are no rules about chickens other than setback distances, but roos can fall under noise violations.

Ked, here are 2 types of penguins (plus my favorite chick -so far- this hatch as a bonus):
This dark penguin gave me the stink eye for waking him up. (Then was a little more polite.)

Then there is the blue (or possibly dark splash) penguin:

This gal has the white eyebrows as well as belly and throat. One of the 2 week olds looks like a rock-hopper his eyebrows are so well-defined.

And then there is my favorite, Belle. She has more white and less yellow than our usual chipmunks.
