Well I am done hatching geese, anyway. I do have a broody turkey but I only gave her three so that doesn't even count, right? A broody mixed breed and an Australorp. (I don't remember how many I gave them.) I just grabbed what was left in the nesting boxes from the other more sensible hens and stuffed them under in place of the fake eggs... My first broody got the special coop and is in residence with her five just-hatched babies. Maybe I ought to make a couple more of them. It was kind of a PITA to build, but I've yet to regret providing more housing.I must not. I can not. I will not. Why am I in this thread? What am I thinking?
2 days sleep deprived here...waiting on the last two eggs in the bator to pop from the June hatch, cranky as all heck despite multiple caffeine refills today...yet here I am to see what you guys are going to set.
Telling myself I will enjoy from afar...
I will only enjoy from afar.
Way afar!
*cough*
I believe they are, pure breeds are so line bred that their gene pool is weak. The cross makes the chick/chicken much hardier.I love my mixes, too!! Have gotten some of the coolest chicks from mixes! A lot of them seem to be hardier, too.
I wear a mask with every interaction with buyers and let them know they are not allowed to touch anything. I show them each chick and put the selection in their box with gloves hands. Covid is a real thing for me, I have bad asthma and will be in a ventilator if I get it. So extra care keeps us all safe. Be safe with your sales.Anyway, he has announced that he is now officially okay with me selling some of the extra chicks, so it's all good if I can sell them...
Yes most definitely. It’s the same with dogs too. Yeah purebreds are great but many get issues later on. A mutt is so much better.I believe they are, pure breeds are so line bred that their gene pool is weak. The cross makes the chick/chicken much hardier.
I do sales outside in the TSC parking lot. Most people keep a 6 foot distance. It’s usually a very quick process. They pay I give them the chicks then leave. My regulars I’ll talk to for a while.I wear a mask with every interaction with buyers and let them know they are not allowed to touch anything. I believe crosses are the best thing someone can add to their flock. I get people love the purebreds, but in my opinion those are the ones that seem to get diseases and problems... you don’t see that much with crosses or at least I haven’t.I love my mixes, too!!
