THEY'RE HERE! :celebrate
From eBay I ordered 5 Black Copper Marans (received 6)
From Omega Hills I ordered;
1 dozen Black Copper Marans (received 12)
1 dozen Cream Legbars (received 16 but 1 was cracked)
1 dozen Bielefelder (received 14)

So I have a total of 47 eggs to set. I tried to candle them to assess the condition of the air sacs but I was unable to see any air sacs at all in most of them except for one very badly saddled Cream Legbar. I've included a couple pictures of the different sides of the same egg. Right now my plan is to weigh the eggs so I can monitor their weight loss during incubation. Since I seem to be unable to see the air sacs, that seems like the best way to keep up with that. Then I'm going to let them all rest overnight. I'll set them in the incubator tomorrow morning around 5am. The test hatch I did last month taught me a lot and it was fun to do. After that hatch, I learned how to calebrate a thermometer and so I'm more confident with my temps now. The calebreated thermometer is right on target with the built in thermometer I used in the incubator. I've also learned some tricks to raise and lower the humidity level. I'm going to shoot for 40%-45% during the first 10 days of incubation. I'll weigh the eggs again on day 10 and adjust the humidity as needed. Assuming there are more saddled like this one... what would you do pre-incubating? Also, is the broken egg fertile? It's the palest yolk I've seen in ages but I'm not too good at telling if they are fertile or not.

Yes that egg is fertile you can see a bullseye. That’s the palest yolk I’ve ever seen too.

Yay, the gang's all there!

I finally won a bid on ebay for the Bieles I've been wanting. I lost about 3 before that because I did not want to get into a bid war with a proxy bidder, so was patient and this last time no one bid against me.

I agree, the egg is fertile, and of course super pale!

@slbenter I wanted to let you know that I received my Brinsea high intensity OvaView/OvaScope. I did not have good luck with it for candling Cream Lebar blue eggs or the Black Copper Maran eggs. I actually did better just using a LED flashlight. I was really disapointed and I really wanted to like this product but for me, the bottom line is that it wasn't worth the money. I hope yours does better for you. I'll be setting my eggs tomorrow morning!

Candled my Lavender Orpington eggs (day 17) and man the air cells receeded a lot in the last 3 days! Much bigger air cells than my last hatches! I also candled the Birchen Marans eggs that I am hatching for a friend and I thought I could see something in all but 1 of them (out of 14 total), they are on day 5. And then I candled my Blue Birchen Marans eggs and my Opal Legbar eggs (day 4). I was sooooo excited about the Opal Legbars, but only saw 2 (maybe 3) out of 8 that are developing. :hit I removed 1 because it just didn't look right inside....like it had stuff floating around in it....definitely wasn't chick development though. And I couldn't see very well into my Marans eggs, so they are staying in the incubator until I know that I can. I also candled my remaining 3 eggs from the terrible smashed shipment and there is 1 developing.

Can you return it? I was worried you'd be disappointed, but you had already ordered it, so... I looked at the lumens on the candlers and on the (fairly inexpensive) high-intensity flashlights and bought one of the flashlights. If you got it through Amazon, you should be able to return it. Just say it didn't work for its intended purpose or something similar. I don't return many things, but I've never been turned down on anything I have requested to return.

Yes. I already have it packed to send back to Amazon. I was so disappointed. I really wanted it to work. My youngest son is a police officer and has given us a couple of really high intensity flashlights and that's the best I've found so far. Still, I haven't been able to see into most of these dark eggs. :idunno:idunno

Thank you for the heads-up. My candler came today, and my eggs should all come Saturday or thereabouts. I purchased it from an Amazon seller, so if I’m disappointed, I can always return it and get my money back. Sorry it didn’t work out for you...perhaps you can return yours as well? At least you had some success with the flashlight. I wonder why though. Best of luck with your hatch, I’ll look forward to seeing all the exciting developments.😊

I’m new to the BYC site but have been enjoying this developing thread. I’m also new to hatching so I’m not sure why I allowed my daughter to talk me into such an expensive hatch but here we are I’ve loaded our third attempt at shipped svart honas 10 went in the Hova-Bator today. Last two attempts resulted 1hatch out of 6 eggs. Just spent two days calibrating everything so we are prepared. 00984C46-AD2F-455D-A3F0-A7A4A46ABDD0.jpeg
The tiny black dot is our last one with 5 Cochins that hatched days before her.

So I weighed my eggs and inspected each one. I found a pinpoint spot on one of them that I guess you would treat like a crack although it's not actually a cracked egg. It's more of a dimple where the shell didn't form but the membrane under the shell is there and intact. It's just a tiny dot of a spot about the size of the end of a matchstick. I melted some wax and tried my best to fill the hole. It was hard to do because there's no cracks to spread it into. I hope this is making sense.... anyway, IF I'M MAKING SENSE, do you think it will be okay? I can't see inside the egg to even see an air cell. So I don't know how I will be able to check it's progress. Thoughts?
