A second guinea hatched overnight.

My husband doesn't know they're guineas and has remarked how cute and quiet these chicks are. :gigI think he likes them more than usual as he seems fascinated by them and their calm demeanor. :ducI should have told him about a month ago, but we talked about them for tick control and he was on board. A deal came up and I bought them. He saw a youtube of guineas before I got a chance to tell him I bought some, heard them yelling, and swore them off forever. These little guys are super sweet and quiet (for now). And we do have a major tick problem. So will have to have that discussion this weekend and either keep them or let them go live with a friend who I know would take them.

They're mostly white with some black on the top of their heads and back. Not the usual pearl keet markings. Will snap some pics tonight after work.
Until they start being loudmouths 😂😂😂🤭🤭🤭

So my hen that I thought was going broody was out some yesterday, but she’s been in all day today, apart from about 30 min this morning. My son went up to get eggs, and he had to push her off of the best to get the egg she was on. (Thankfully she wasnt aggressive! Lol)

I gave her aegg and a fake egg to sit on, and I’ll see what she does the next couple days, but think she might want to be a mama!!

I’m not sure if it’s just a coincidence because she doesn’t like rain, but It’s unlike her to be in all day even if it’s rainy. 🤔

I’ve never had a broody before, but if she is I’m going to give her a few of the eggs out of the incubator to sit on to see how she does. 😊

how long should I wait to be sure before I give her eggs?
My broody is sitting on an empty nest for about 20 days and I'm incubating some chicks for her. After the fiasco with the broody ducks, I am a little paranoid. haha!

That’s one thing my husband said no to... unless I get cool colored ones. I won’t get them till we move though because I don’t want them in the neighbors yards

Well, mine too apparently. NOW! Hahaha... These are cool colors too! And a lady near me has a dozen lavender guinea eggs for $5 that she's offered me a few times too. Fortunately didn't buy those too. lol

Tractor Supply has some more incubators in stock. Specifically the NR 360 with free shipping to store. Snapped one up!

Question: Just candled my eggs due soon to go on lockdown and it seems that the air cells on them are a bit larger than what I am used to seeing. Of course I don't have pictures. Could you guys point me to some resources on air cell size? I am finding some in the forums using the search feature but nothing really helpful. I will keep looking, but if you know of any good ones off the bat I would be happy if you wouldn't mind sharing.

I'm MIA for a day and have like 10 pages to catch up on. LOL!

Had an external pip in 1 of the Marans eggs I am hatching for a friend the night before last night and another one yesterday morning. Both were still doing chewing motions as of midnight last night, and also had 3 more pips last night. So went to be thinking I would get up early this morning.....didn't happen, I am exhausted from not sleeping well the last couple nights and being extra busy on the farm. Checked the hatcher at 9 and had 3 chics from the group I am selling and 1 chick from my group. Reached in to make sure none had pipped the back side of the egg or been rolled onto their pip....and sure enough 1 of my 2 remaining Opal Legbars had pipped the back side of the egg overnight and drowned as the fluid left the egg. I also discovered one in the group I am going to sell that had zipped about half way and then died. :( And another that looked like it was trying to zip, but had just made a really big hole instead that was looking pretty exhausted...so I helped that one a bit and it is now out of the shell. I also have 3 new pips this morning

I candled my Call Duck eggs yesterday about 1 pm...just to see if they did pull through or if they were all blood rings. And I saw movement in the 4 that looked strong the day before! The 2 I thought might be early quitters were blood rings. So there might be some hope for a few of them to pull through if I don't screw up again.

My CCL eggs from Fox Fire arrived yesterday! I absolutely love how they package their eggs!! It's not just about packing the eggs well, but they put effort into presentation. It is like opening a present! (2nd set of eggs I have gotten from them. :)) Double Laced Barnevelders left Kansas City this morning, so I expect them to be here tomorrow. BCMs, Silverudds, Opal Legbars, and 1 dozen+ assorted bantams (Duckwing Pheonix, Mille Fuer d'Uccle, and Pyncheons) either have shipping labels created or are on their way. 2nd try at Bresse eggs will be shipping soon.
