So I chucked 2 pekin duck eggs in with my quail eggs to do a fertility test, and today on day three I can see what I am assuming is "the blood island" But growth for sure. So I guess I'll start storing eggs and add some more Friday  (I have a hatcher I promise) I don't normally candle the duckies this early but I was checking my 2 quail eggs to see if the air cells finally stuck, which they did. So today is a good day.

up to 3 external pips on the silkies and 1 internal (because I can hear the peep). Cross your fingers for a black one for my daughter. :) 🤞

Candled the Melanistic Pheasant eggs. DH will be disappointed. Out of 12 - removed 2 clears and I am thinking another 4 are quitters (they are on day 14). I also candled the Welsummer eggs a little earlier than scheduled as I have not been able to see inside of them very well. They are on day 12 and......out of 7, I tossed 5 to clears or blood rings. :( But.....the last 3 call ducks are still growing!!

It’s too bad I can’t ship chicks! I have over 20 little black silkies right now in my brooder.

Just went and hung out with my brooder chicks for a little while and noticed one of my 2 1/2 week old lavender orpingtons had an eye that was off colored. It is kind of a cloudy grey colored with a little dimple in the middle of it - looks like it got pecked in the eye. It keeps the eye open for the most part - it is not swollen shut or oozing anything. I have absolutely no idea when this happened. Anyone have any ideas what I should do to treat it? Or is it too far along to be treated where it is an off color?

At this stage a fluorescein stain would probably be needed to rule out a corneal ulcer and I doubt you could get the eye meds needed at a regular supply store anyway. One type would be needed for an ulcer and a different one if it's not an ulcer, so if it's not weeping or bothering the chick at this point you could take the wait and see approach.

I went to check on the guineas and ducks and one of the guineas drowned in their "chick safe" waterer. It probably only has 1/4 inch of water in it and somehow... 😭 I have never had a problem with them, but will probably have to switch out my chick waterers to something deep enough to put marbles or stones in it.

Did you let them know the breed was wrong? Meyer is one of the best I've dealt with so far, but I would probably not buy eggs from them because of their pricing. I've gotten some nice looking pullets from them though.

All of the hatcheries have been working in major overdrive for the last 3-4 months. I'm sorry the hatch didn't go well, but they will probably want to know and make it right if you got the wrong breed.
I havnt said anything basically because my parents won't let me but oh well. Better luck next Time😁
