July Hatch-a-Long

Pics
Okay so it's technically 12 hours till lockdown and 2 of my eggs knocked together and got cracks! I freaked out, put nail polish on them anyway and just put them into lockdown now. I am really freaking out because one hat a drop of blood on the shell. I hope they will make it. Either way it's too late to reconsider now so lockdown here we go!

Good luck on your upcoming hatch! :fl the cracked eggs make it.

I have one new poult this as of this morn I have it in the incubator waiting to get its legs under it before I put it in with the bigger ones.... I may put it and the other lone chick from the 3rd in a separate brooder for a while.

Congrats on your new poult!

Is it possible for them to start developing during shipment? I don’t have any good candling pictures because I wanted to grab photos without moving them but you can still see the air cells. I upped the humidity but do these air cells look too big? I’ve been averaging around 35% at 99.5.

To be fair this is my first hatch but they look much like mine today which is day 17. From what I understand they don't change much from about day 15 on as the chick starts to take up space and the extra fluid is already out. I went ahead and put mine into lockdown early due to cracks because 2 eggs bonked each other and I couldn't get all the membrane on one covered. I didn't want them to dry out so I asked around and everyone said that they had lost all the fluid they were going to so early lockdown was no big deal. I don't know about silkies being early but I do know that sometimes some chicks develop faster than others. I think that as long as none have internally pipped that you should be fine to wait at least another day but if you are really worried going into lockdown a day early can't hurt.

OMG I am going out of my mind! :barnieI am so excited for my first hatch and also so scared! Every minute feels like forever and I keep looking in through the glass of the incubator like something was supposed to be visible to tell me they are okay! I don't know how I would stay sane without this site! Reading posts and looking at pics of others hatches is keeping me sane. Does everybody feel like this with their first hatch? AHHHH This is going to be the hardest 3 days ever!:he :wee:jumpy:woot

I’m going so crazy with my eggs! It’s my first incubation so I sit here every day doing way too much research and am excited but also I’m so nervous that things can go wrong. I’m not letting myself get my hopes up at all. Also I’m not sure what I’d do without byc!

Right!? I wasn't this bad when my kids were little! Who knows, maybe I am so obsessive with my chickens and eggs because the kids are off to college and this is how I am coping with empty nest syndrome...by getting an ACTUAL NEST! LOL Regardless I am going to be a helicopter parent at least until after the first week in the brooder...and I couldn't be happier!....but also:barnie:he:fl:caf:oops::love:jumpy

Lol its only just begun....... I started hatching in Oct of 16...... and I really have not had more than one month since then where I didn't have something hatching...... I love watching eggs turn into fowl.
OMG YES! I have more eggs coming this week (Easter eggers) And am already planning a new coop for bantams and am looking into who I am going to buy Silkie and Cochin eggs from for it! Thank goodness I am in good company because I think if I talked to someone who never had any chickens they would just call me crazy! (Which I may be but like I said, I'm in good company!):sick:yesss:
