June 2023 Hatch-a-long

Hi guys!

After my dismal May hatch, I’m over here for what hopefully will be a better one!

I have a customer who wants “as many chicks as I can hatch”, along w someone who gave me a very old Farm Innovators Still Air Incubator.

I set 41 eggs in that on Friday, cleaned out my NR360 and just set 28 eggs in there.

I also have 2 Kebonnix Incubators hatching eggs tomorrow that I will be setting eggs in hopefully tomorrow & Tuesday…if not Wednesday.

For a total of 93 eggs set. 😳. I think I’ll be glad I staggered everyone a day or two so I can tend to each group separately. I will be using a very large brooder with 2 heat plates until all are ready for my customer.

Hatch dates are from 6/9-6/13. I will wrap up hatching for the year at that point, and my chick order arrives the week of June 19th, so I’ll be able to focus on my own biddies and the Silkies I am currently hatching with my son. 😊
wow that is a LOT of eggs!!
Always nice to hatch with you!

cant remember when I last updated here.

I started with 24 eggs. 8 Ameracauna eggs, 4 F1 OE eggs and 12 splash Cochin/project Cochins from my flock that I am hatching for someone else. Well all 8 Ameracauna eggs started to develop, could tell for sure 1/4 OE eggs and 9 splash started. Well 4 Ameracuauna eggs quit on me. :( I still can't tell on the OE, and splash are still going strong. Sure hope that the OE and Ameracauna eggs at least give me a pullet each!

For those that don't know me I have HORRIBLE luck with colored egg layers! LOL I have tried MANY times to get them and for lots of different reasons I have 1 that lays a pretty teal and 1 that lays such a light blue it looks white..... Well looks like my luck may be continuing this year! I had a few blue eggs in one of my hatches and they quit or were clear.. I did hatch a "brahma" that the breeder I get my eggs from has been working on that hatched from a green egg so hoping she lays green. The person I am hatching the splash babies for gave me some CCL eggs and ice cream bar eggs (Isbar/CCL cross) and 9 of those hatched but only one poorly marked CCL the rest are the Ice ones.. which should lay green eggs but I really wanted CCL! And now with this batch where maybe only 1 OE is developing and 4/8 Ameracauna developing. and I still have like 11 days left till hatch!

The one with the CCL did say she would separate her CCL from the isbars and give me more eggs that should be pure (guess she had them all together and thought the CCL roo would fertilize some but seems the isbar was??? BUT her chicks will be ready in like 2 weeks or her to get so doesn't seem like enough time to be sure they are pure CCL? She also had 1 whiting true blue so was going to put her in iwth the CCL group for that mix since she lays really blue eggs So guess I see what I get and looks like I will be hatching again. LOL

I set 14 (2 sent for free) had 3 that never started 1 that has quit but I have 10 going strong! So far..... day 12. finally, home from camping I count not wait to candle! I'm super happy I was sure a few looked like they were starting the ring of death but are great now.

AWWWW so sad. I really hope you rlittle one makes it!
I candled again tonight and it’s moving around a whole lot so I really hope it will survive. It’s shown it’s will to live. My hen would leave the nest to meet her needs and come back but sit in a different nest. I’m not sure if she got confused by the abundance of eggs or what but I have since built a door to keep her in and i provide food and water and open it when i can supervise her. But the egg went uncovered for a least a couple hours and it happened two days in a row. So uncovered for anywhere between 1 to 7 hours for two days and still thriving and to getting cracked and now again still thriving, I have some hope.

wow that poor egg has been though it. My broody would go back to the wrong nest quite often including when her eggs started internally pipping. she would have a couple days in a row she would go back to the right one then it would be a few days in a row she would go to the wrong one. I have a camera in my coop. Thankfully a lot of times the other hens would go inthere and lay but that would mean the eggs were staying warm for that time. it happened when I was at work just about every time... then when I got home I would move her back. She hatched 9/11 eggs. I have no clue how some of those babies made it! On day 20 she was off for about 3-4 hrs with noone else on. I thought for sure the hatch rate would be HORRIBLE! So was happy I got 9.

I had an empty incubator for a day. One day! Today it's got 67 guineafowl eggs in it...and I'll will be filling it up the rest of the way after I gather eggs this evening. :lau
